Squidoo allows content creators to earn money from referral links to sites like eBay and Amazon, and these users who create the pages of Squidoo, or lenses as they are called, are themselves called “lensmasters”. These users with a specific interest in one subject, are not always recognized as experts, although with Squidoo’s functionality they can create multimedia pages without learning HTML

The tools that the lensmasters use to create lenses, are called modules, and these modules provide leads, lists and links to other users who try to understand a particular topic or subject. So, single pages could point to Google Maps, blogs, YouTube videos, eBay auctions and other links. And lensmasters have an interest in promoting personal agendas, own products, other people’s products, causes and opinions.

What you do with Squidoo is making money in two different ways: You either link to affiliate products from your squidoo lens (more about this later), or through what is called “splitting of revenue”. This occurs when a visitor to your lens interacts by clicking a link leading to a product that they buy. Or they could click a Google Adsense ad which will generate revenue.

Squidoo then splits this money with its “co-op” of lensmasters, after giving 5% of it to charitable causes. They keep 45% of the revenue and the rest goes to the lensmasters.

Before promoting anything in Squidoo, try and get signed up first. You get a wealth of information at Squidoo by reading Squidoo’s FAQ, so, take your time to read through the FAQ and then practice a lot about creating lenses. Don’t try to have them created perfectly, just practice with a few and see how they work, then abandon the ones that do not make any money.

With Squidoo lenses, you could target any number of things, but if you want to make money with Squidoo, this is also possible as well and you could get these pages rank highly in Google. Lets call these lenses “money pages” when they link to other pages that make online revenue or even to other affiliate programs.

You first look for a lucrative market, for groups of people that are active buyers. Find out what is their problem or pain, need and solutions for what they are looking for. You can use Google and other search engines or any of the excellent keyword software programs available, such as KeywordElite, Market Samurai, Micro Niche Finder, Wordtracker and others, to choose a hot niche as a topic for your lens.

In Amazon or in eBay, in Clickbank or Paydotcom.com, you can find good products to promote, using keyword research in depth, to discover a red hot topic that you want to go after.

Then, you need to divert traffic to your pages and convert it into revenue. Be patient and take care to do changes in your approach to increase your conversions. Just remember that the more you check what works, the clearer and direct your lenses will be, targeting the right buyers, and increasing your revenue.

When you have refined your keyword search, you must start with the main keyword phrase as your URL, for example, say you want to promote “Dell Studio XPS”, your URL will be www.squidoo.com/Dell-Studio-XPS-price.

Add a word at the beginning or at the end when a keyword phrase is already taken for your URL. So Dell Studio XPS can be “Best-Dell-Studio-XPS-price”. And use this keyword as the title for your lens.

Next, introduce your title using a variation of your main keyword phrase and write a brief introduction to your page. This is super important since this is what Google normally displays in their search results. Make it as short and absolutely relevant to your keyword phrase as you can.

And then, you will need some modules in your lens, about 3 at least, each one being a different part of your lens. YouTube, a list of features, a text book, or an Amazon book are called modules that you can add in your pages, and of course, Squidoo makes it ever so easy to add this modules to your lenses.

Now, remember that a lot of people love to watch videos, so you can use the video module to add a YouTube showing, to allow you a link section of YouTube. Google will rank your lens better that way.

Create a Write Module and put in a link to your money page. You can also upload a screenshot of the Amazon search results for Dell Studio XPS and create a link to that website. And at this point, you’ve virtually done your content creation. If you do a few lenses this way, you’ll soon be setting Squidoo lenses in 15 to 20 minutes.

After all this, there a number of things you need to do to optimize, tweak or improve your pages like writing articles and submitting them to EzineArticles.com, submitting comments in other people’s blogs, creating bookmark accounts in many bookmarking sites, using pingoat.com every time your lenses are updated and published, using the YouTube module, etc. etc. An finally, do link from many other article directories to your Squidoo lenses.

If you apply most of the above, you will see your rankings in Google go up, giving your Squidoo lenses the chance to make first page in the Google rankings, and with that, the opportunity for higher online revenue.
