Movement Don't think me sappy or corny, but i love movement more than anything. Movement is beautiful, and the more difficult, the more beautiful, especially when performed with grace. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cStSBZPIY6k People have always been mystified by the grace at which others can perform feats of strength and movement that are beyond them. Such as the strong men of yore who would perform feats of strength for an audience who was mystified by their capabilities and the grace at which they performed them. I believe movement in of itself is the end all goal of "exercise" and "fitness" People convince themselves, that they want "this good looking body" "to drop 30lbs" "have more energy" "play with the kids" etc. You could accomplish all of these goals with movement! All exercise modalities are movements, the bench press is a movement, a handstand, a back flip, dance, martial arts, you name it. The end all is to find what movement sings to you and your heart and to pursue it and devote yourself to it with abandon. And to of course make smart decisions about which movements you practice, don't polarize, and try a wide variety of them to prevent becoming unbalanced. Sprints = fat loss, Movement Conditioning = energy to play with kids (cool tricks to use with them too), good looking body? that comes from training with purpose: For Movement! As i've said before, the 3 "F's" of Movement training; "Form Follows Function". If you train to have a good looking body, that is what you will have. If you train to move, move in a variety of ways, with weights, without, on one hand, on two, then you will have skills and fun at your disposal and your body's form will follow. Your body and brain love movement, crave it, if you find the type of movement that sings to you then you will enjoy every moment of it, dedicate and devote yourself to it, give up junk food, get better sleep for it, breath for it, and the most important thing, you will be passionate about it. "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive." ~Howard Thurman Is it better to have a good looking car with no engine, or a good looking car with a kick ass engine? The title of this post is The Movement Revolution because i aim to be the opposite of what the fitness industry preaches: Conventional. I am tired of seeing people in the gym working so hard for the things they want, but getting nowhere because they lack a guide on their journey, I aim to be the guide these people do not have, perhaps even for you. I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of strength of all forms and what good would i be if i did not turn around and lend a helping hand to the people on the path behind me? "The masters on the mountain top may be less useful to us than those close enough to reach back and offer helping hands or kind words. And we can offer the same for those who follow." People work so hard, its time they get a little help, it's time they get what they want for the effort they put in, and experience the joy of learning movement in all its simplicity and complexity, at any age. My revolution is about reclaiming what "Strong" really is, and correcting what it is not. Strong is not having huge bulky massive muscles Strong is being able to perform your movement fluidly with grace and elegance. Strong is not being able to lift huge amounts of weight at any cost Strong is knowing when a heavy weight is the right tool for the right job Strong is not working your tail off to drop fat to fit in a dress Strong is becoming stronger in body, mind, and soul Strong is not going it alone Strong is leaning on your tribe for support when you need it Being stronger makes you a better person, and forging relationships in the tribe through strength will improve the quality of your life My Passion for movement has led me to this path to share all that i know with others in the hopes of inspiring them to pursue movement. To me there's nothing more beautiful than the smile on a persons face when they finally hold a handstand or accomplish a movement they've been working towards. Movement is life, it is joy, and the most important part... Movement is fun. If you could achieve all those fitness and health goals you had while having tons of fun, learning new skills, and gaining friends & a tribe in the process, wouldn't that be preferable than isolating muscles on machines and walking on a treadmill for hours? That is what The Manimal Method, The Manimal Tribe, and my training is like. it IS work, but it is fun, it is camaraderie, it is results, and it is real. I see young people in their 20's unable to squat, i see people in their 40's with no movement left in their shoulders, i see people in their 60's throwing out their backs every month. and terrible damaging posture on all of them. Movement and strength could help them, and it can help you, but you must start before its too late, before your injuries, issues, and tissues stack up and become a much harder obstacle to overcome. I invite you to join the revolution, start playing with movement, learn a cartwheel, practice handstands, crawl on the ground, just MOVE. movement is one of those things that if you do not use it you WILL lose it. Will you join the revolution? will you join us here in The Manimal Tribe
