How to Make Your Employees Stay

It is every employer’s goal to retain their top employees. If you feel that one of your best people is planning to quit his or her job with you to join another company, what are you supposed to do to stop him/her from doing that? Although your instinct is to find a way to encourage them from leaving your company, it is important that you also look at the possible reasons they are thinking of leaving you. By knowing these reasons, you will be able to come up with an effective strategy to keep them, and you may also address those problems that are making your employees want to leave.

Below you will find some tips on how you could make an employee stay with you.

1. Ask what their reason is for wanting to leave the company. If you sense that someone in your staff is planning to give you a resignation letter, invite him or her to your office to discuss a few things. Be honest with your intention, but don’t sound rude as you ask. This conversation with your employee is very important as it will help make you understand what it is in your system needs changes or improvements.

2. Offer a salary increase. There is no doubt that one of the most common employee complaints is low salary. Thus, a salary increase has always been one of the most effective ways of retaining employees. This can also be risky, though, especially if the job being offered to your employee by another company is twice as much as what you can offer. In this case, you may not be able to afford such increase. You will then have to weigh your options to decide if you should make a bigger offer or just let your employee go.

3. Use bigger incentives to motivate your staff. If your employees are obviously losing enthusiasm with their job, then you must find a way to get them motivated once again. This way, you can prevent them from looking for another place of work where they think they will rediscover their passion once again. Among the best forms of incentives are a comprehensive retirement and pension plans.

4. Let your employees have a better work environment. If your employees are not happy with their environment anymore, they have every reason to consider changing jobs. Try to investigate what their working conditions are and address the possible issues they are having. Talking to your staff has so many benefits to you as a leader. Make sure that your line of communication with your staff is always open so that you will remain up-to-date with everything that’s happening around you.
