Ascetic practices (tapas), concentration and bodily postures used by Vedic priests to conduct yajna (Vedic ritual of fire sacrifice) might have been precursors to yoga. The term ‘Yog’ is commonly used as a generic term for the physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which originated in ancient India with a view to attain a state of permanent peace. Hiranyagarbha has been considered as the originator of Yoga since post-classical traditions. Swami Vivekananda took Yoga to the West in the late 19th century. In the 1980s, yoga became popular as a system of physical exercise across the Western world. This form of yoga is often called Hatha yoga. Various traditions of yoga are found in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Yoga Class and Yoga Meditation Center are places where people practice Yoga and meditation. In Hindu religious scriptures “Aum” is used to describe the universal energy of God and creator of life and when you repeat this word slowly again and again it actually creates a vibration through your entire head and is believed to be stimulating and relaxing for the brain. This process of repeating the word is also referred to as mantra. There are various Yoga and Yoga Meditation Center where trained Yoga masters impart techniques of yoga to students. Students from all walks of life gather in large numbers early in the morning and practice meditation under the supervision of master who teaches them the correct way to meditate.
