In an ideal world, we would all know what the perfect career for each of us is. We also wouldn’t have any problems with having the qualifications for the careers we wish to pursue. But then again, that is in a perfect world. In reality, though, choosing the right career is one of the most difficult things to do. There are many factors that can influence how we make our career decisions. Each of these factors may have slight to significant influences on what career pathways we may choose. It is, therefore, important that you be aware of such roadblocks so that you may be more prepared to face them. Looking for the Perfect Fit Many of us make wrongly believe that there is only one career out there that could fit us perfective. The problem is that a number of different careers can have similar traits. Thus, rather than looking for one specific career that seems like the perfect one, you should take a look at all your other options, especially those jobs that share common characteristics. Being Too Scared to Fail One great roadblock in choosing a good career is a person’s fear of failing. If you are always worried that you will not succeed in a certain career, you may actually not succeed in any career at all. Remember that job search and career search are not the easiest things to do in life, and one of the greatest weapons you have is your self-belief. Not believing enough in yourself will mean you missing different opportunities to really see how you’d do in certain career fields. Having Too Many Obligations If you have a lot of obligations in your life right now, chances are that you will overlook the many career opportunities in front of you. If, for instance, you have a lot of debt, you are likely to ignore a job that does not pay too high. You would not even bother knowing if that could be the perfect career path for you. This is unfortunate because anyone who enjoys their job or career are almost always the one who excel in what they do, which could eventually mean promotion for them and higher compensation. Not Knowing Much about Oneself Another factor that can cause problems in choosing a career is a person’s lack of awareness in terms of what he can and cannot do, as well as what he is or isn’t passionate about. In choosing a career, it is important that you know how your personality and background will match the requirements of a job. Unless you conduct a thorough assessment of your personality and your skills, you will end up changing jobs again and again.
