real estate properties in Thailand, and I have not once had a problem with the owner, the return of the deposit, or the condition of the house I have taken, so if it is flexibility you are looking for while living in Thailand then renting is the way to go.">Is it your dream to live in Thailand? If so you will want to know what the options are in terms of real estate. There are several ways for you to consider how you want to live while you are here, and we will look at just one of them; renting a condominium or house. This is one of the easiest and most popular ways to live in Thailand. The process is really straight forward. You choose the area you wish to live in, tour that area until you find available properties for rent, sign a straightforward contract either directly with the owner, or the agent involved, pay your deposit and move in. It sounds simple, and it really is! Just a couple of points that will hopefully help you along if you are looking to rent a real estate property here: Searching for properties – Although a letting agent is one way to go about finding properties in your chosen area you could consider looking on your own. The reason for saying this is that there are many properties available in Thailand where the owner puts a simple sign outside the real estate to rent with their contact details on. This is a very common practice here, and this agreement would be between yourself and the owner. The other option is to buy the local paper in the major tourist areas such as Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai. In these cities you will find local, English newspapers. Go to the classified section, and you will always see a good choice of condos or houses for rent. Some of these properties will be via estate agents or letting companies, and others from the owners themselves. As long as you stay the agreed amount of time, which is usually 6 months plus, and as long as you leave the real estate property as you find it your deposit will be returned. Deposit – In general this will be 2 or 3 months rent, and you will pay the first months rent in advance. Once you agree the contract length with the owner 2 copies of a contract are signed by both of you. You keep one and the other goes to the owner. Upon completion of your contract you can either extend the contract for a further period, or your deposit will be returned in full assuming the house is in the same or better condition as when you rented it. I have rented numerous real estate properties in Thailand, and I have not once had a problem with the owner, the return of the deposit, or the condition of the house I have taken, so if it is flexibility you are looking for while living in Thailand then renting is the way to go.
