The key reason why an NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) accreditation is necessary is that most of the States out there create this as being a necessity for somebody to obtain her architecture license. There are three different breakdowns in degree conditions in terms of accreditation: post- and pre-professional, as well as professional. Although a school may perhaps be accredited by their regional criterias, the real key to keep in mind you are seeking an approved NAAB (National Architectural Accrediting Board) accreditation to be qualified for your architecture license. The only degrees that are licensed by the National Architectural Accrediting Board will be the architecture programs that fit into the Professional Architecture Degrees niche. Sometimes, architecture colleges that only have one professional architecture degree will likely provide a pre- and post-professional architecture degree. So we will use one university by way of example. Harvard University's Architecture School offers an National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) certified architecture degree program. The architecture degree program that is approved by means of the National Architectural Accrediting Board is the Master of Architecture degree. Probably, Harvard University offers an undergraduate degree program that is considered a pre-professional degree (it might look something similar to: B.A. in Architectural Studies, B.S. in Sustainable Design Theory, or something similar that relates to architecture). These architecture programs tend to be only four years in length, nonetheless they lead to a M Arch should the student wants to pursue that path. Once a person receives their pre-professional degree, they've got the opportunity to go on to a professional program which is approved by National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). For students who've been given a pre-professional degree, this schooling tends to be shorter (generally, it's about one and a half to two years of schooling). Immediately after they are given their professional degree, they're ready to re-locate in to the work force. You could get into a Master of Architecture degree without having a pre-professional degree, providing you have a regionally accredited (meaning that your University is accredited...and isn't some "fake" institution) Bachelor’s degree, a lot of architecture universities will allow you to enroll in their architecture program (so long as, you meet or exceed their minimum specifications). This option typically takes three years to finish. So you may ask yourself if a M Arch degree is the only route to becoming an architect. It’s not. You can also receive a professional undergraduate architecture degree. You only need to choose a college which offers a Bachelor of Architecture degree program. There are many more colleges that have M Arch degree programs, but attending a professional architecture degree program for undergrad studies could be a good path to take. Take into account that B Arch degree program usually takes 5 years to complete. For a list of accredited architecture schools, you can reseach all NAAB approved schools on My School of Architecture.
