If you’re going to start on the South Beach Diet, you’re probably wondering what options you have in front of you. You might feel like it will be tough to have a diet without carbohydrates and fat. But you need to get used to it being that way. You will have to find ways of working around the limitation. Before jumping into the diet, you would want to understand the different types of food that are allowed. Upon understanding what is allowed to be consumed you’ll know what are good options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Exclude carrots, potato and yam from the list of vegetables in your diet. 3. If you want to add dressing to your salad, limit it to one or two teaspoons. 4. A glass of milk won’t harm during lunch as long as you don’t cross the line. 5. If you want to eat salads, you could try to make an interesting garden salad or a traditional tuna salad. You could even try Caesar salad but be sure to exclude croutons in it. Dinner 1. For dinner, your protein serving should be the same as lunch in terms of meats allowed as well as quantity. The portion size should be big enough to keep you well fed but make sure you don’t overeat. 2. You are allowed to consume vegetables in any form and in generous amounts be it frozen, boiled or fresh. 3. You can consume dairy products as long as you have some left from your stipulated daily quantity. You might want to save some amount of dairy for dessert! 4. As for lunch, it is best to consume only one or two teaspoons of salad dressing on your salad. 5. Make sure your after dinner tea or coffee is decaffeinated. Snacks and Dessert Remember that during Phase one of the South Beach diet, you are allowed two snacks a day. The first snack is between breakfast and lunch (mid-morning) and the second snack is allowed for between lunch and dinner (mid-afternoon). Your ideal snack should be a combination of source of proteins and vegetables. For example, roasted garbanzo is a great snack option. You could even try nuts which brings with it the goodness of proteins. You could pick up celery and a healthy dip to go with it. Typically, you are not allowed to consume desserts in the first phase of the South Beach diet. However, in the second phase, you could add a slice of low-fat cake if you really want to add a dessert in your menu. You might feel constrained with the number of options you have but as you go along, you’ll find ways of working around and cooking meals to comply with the South Beach dietary allowances.
