At the end of an interview you will almost certainly be asked if you have any questions for the interviewer or interview panel. Dusring this section of the interview, there are good questions, bad questions and even worse, no questions at all. Your response at this point could make the difference between remaining a job seeker or getting the post. The interviewer will be looking for someone who asks thoughtful and intelligent questions, so you need to prepare these in advance. But this section is really a double edged sword. You can undo all of the good work that you have already done in answering the questions of the interviewer. So here are some top tips about the type of question that can ruin an otherwise good interview. Firstly, if you ask questions about the company benefits, that can give the impression that you are only really care about what the company can offer you rather than showing an enthusiasm for the post for which you have applied. Questions about the length of the lunch break, the holiday benefits or perks such as company car and health insurance fall into that category. Of course these are all important, however, the interview is not really the place to discuss them. Many senior posts are advertised with a salary range but asking about your pay is not advised at the interview, it is something that can be negotiated as and when you are awarded the job. Similarly, questions about working hours and out of hours expectations are to be avoided. It can raise a red flag that indicates that you may not be prepared to commit one hundred percent to the post. Senior managers are expected to live for work and give that priority. Before you attend the interview, you should research the company and the market in order to inform yourself and to prepare any questions. You should have a variety to ask but three should be the minimum. You may find that some of the questions that you wanted to ask may be answered as a matter of course during the interview, it won't harm to mention that has happenedwhen you get the opportunity to ask your questions. Good questions can include asking about the work culture of the company or organisation, the departmental team structure, performance management, future expansion plans for the department or company or a risky one such as 'do you have any doubts as to my suitability for this post'. The latter, if it works, could allow you some extra time to blow your own trumpet and demonstrate that you do have the skills and qualities that have not come across in either your CV or the interview.
