SALT LAKE – Martin Garage Doors fill a black hole in the garage door market. Black is a difficult color to find, among garage door companies, and so Martin’s offering of standard powder coat options for jet black and black grey increasingly is filling that void. No where is that option more noticeable than in Sweden. Tomas Kleveback of Classic House says Martin Doors satisfy a key niche in Sweden. “Martin is the only company that offers design and color,” Kleveback said of options important to customers in his country. One of those color options is a dark color door----notably black---that no other company has been able to successfully fill. Two other major competitors in Sweden discontinued black on sandwich doors because of bad oil canning from heat absorption, leading to delamination. But the desire for a black door extends beyond Sweden. Black is growing as a choice of customers in the United States too. Bay Area Overhead Door is one of the dealers that sell the color. Donna Petralia described the option as “kind of a popular color” and noted one of the first powder coat Martin Doors her company sold was a jet black door in high gloss, because the owner wanted the garage door to showcase his car collection. Since Martin opened its own powder coat paint booth, jet black has consistently been among the top five powder coat options. Sales of the color have gone up 63 percent during the past four years in comparison to the sales of the other 76 powder coat options.
