Wind Power Outlook in India : 2015

Business,Business News,Marketing
Bharatbook.com has this special report, which sources information of in the global wind energy basket, India is the fi fth largest producer after Germany, Spain, USA and China. Wind energy accounts for over 71% (14 GW) of the total 20 GW of installed renewable energy generation capacity in India as of March 2011. India’s total wind power potential has been assessed at 48,500 MW by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET). This shows that till now only about 29% of the total gross potential for wind power development has been installed in India as of March 2011. And out of which only 32% is considered technically feasible. Analyzing state wise potential vs. achievement, Karnataka had the potential to tap more than 11,500 MW of wind energy, but is actually tapping less than 1,517 MW, while Tamil Nadu has the potential to harness only about 5,500 MW, but the state has overshot the potential by putting up windmills with a capacity of nearly 5,000 MW. Wind power in India is concentrated in few regions, especially in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, with 5.1 GW installed at the end of July 2010, representing 42% of India’s total wind capacity, followed by Maharashtra and Gujarat. From 2002 till 2010, the cumulative wind capacity has grown by a CAGR of 27.7 percent. The rapid building up of capacity was catalysed by combined efforts of:

a) The government entities in creating the necessary policy environment b) The private sector in capacity building in project engineering, construction, component manufacture, installation and operation and in mobilising investments c) The state level entities with their active involvement and support and d) Financial institutions extending their expertise and funds.
