How many New Year resolutions have you made in your lifetime to lose weight that never materialized? Something happens at the end of every year that triggers you to SWEAR to get skinny… only to give it up easily after several months or even weeks! If you have tried almost everything under the sun to get into shape but failed miserably, see if these could be the reasons why and how you can do it the right way. Setting unrealistic targets. This is one of the main reasons why people give up a weight loss plan so easily. You’ve heard of those who scrambled to lose A LOT of pounds in a short period of time because it’s bikini season in the summer or you have a reunion or a wedding to go to in 2 weeks? Yeah… we’ve all been there. The thing is, it's not healthy to lose weight too much or too fast. So take the first step to make a conservative and realistic target. You can set your timeline in weeks but make sure that the target weight loss is at an achievable goal. Keep in mind that losing weight healthily is a gradual process. That way you will not deprive your body and putting it into a shock state plus, the weight stays off longer. So get a weight loss program that is practical that will not give you false hope and one that can integrate well with your lifestyle. Not getting a program that best suits YOU Many of us joined a program because our best friend, sister or colleague is in it and they have nothing but good things to say about it. I joined an aqua aerobics once because of a friend and hated every minute of it! I felt awkward, embarrassed and totally out of my element. I think I'll just stick to my kickboxing for now. Well, maybe some of you might not hate the activity but it’s not something that you truly enjoy. This will only give the impression that working out is just hard work and cannot be fun. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The best thing to do is to pick out what interest you and don’t be afraid to try out until you find what works best for you and your body. Avoid working on muscles Building lean muscles is not only for the men but good for women too. Don't worry, women will NOT bulk up like a man because of the low levels of testosterone. There are hundreds of muscles in your body so try to work on as many as possible. Muscles burn of calories and reduce fats in the body. So get an exercise regime that work on different muscles for total body weight loss instead of only one. Because we all know that spot reduction is a myth. Doing just one workout Mix it up to stay motivated. Do a variety of exercise program so you don’t get bored. Getting fit doesn’t mean that you have to be confined to a gym. There’s nothing wrong if you enjoy it but for those who wants to stay motivated and interested in exercise, make it fun. Try inline skating at the beach with your family, do hikes on Saturday morning with your best friends or change up your workout classes every 2-3 months. All this is so that you have more control over your weight loss plan. The key to a good weight loss plan is to keep on moving and not stay stagnant. As long as you are moving and improving, you CAN lose weight. If you enjoy reading this, you may like to know how the celebrities got those sexy arms! Need a diet overhaul?
