Author Comment / Biography:
My main interests are in travel and enjoying the outdoors, in particular hiking and mountain biking being a regular visitor to the Lake District and North Wales, those being the nearest mountain areas to my home in Lancashire.

I have written 3 travel books to date, the latest of which, "Tales from the Hills", is now available being a collection of stories from my travels in the mountain areas of Britain and Europe as well as a brief foray to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. My previous work includes "31 Days in a Campervan" and "A Long Walk in the Alps". Another interest is outdoor photography and my efforts with the camera can be seen at the Mountain Landscapes gallery on my website. I have 2 sons aged 12 and 2, am married to Jacqui and live in Lancashire England.

11. Visiting New Zealand - 5 Places to See in North Island
June 14, 2009

Of all the countries I've visited, New Zealand is definitely among my favorites. The reason I say this is because rarely is such natural diversity to be experienced in such a relatively small area. There are subtropical forests, icefields, deserted beaches and rolling grasslands to be found a...

12. Walking in the Alps - A Quick Guide to the Schilthorn
June 08, 2009

The Jungfrau Region of Switzerland's Bernese Oberland provides some wonderful walking country in stunning scenery but the high peaks of the region offer few easy ways to their snowy summits. The walker wishing to scale the high peaks here has less choice than at say Zermatt or Saas Fee, for...

June 08, 2009

Set in one of the most spectacular locations in Europe, beneath the towering North Wall of the Eiger, Grindelwald is a veritable paradise for the walker. Trails lead off through pine scented valleys leading the way to airy summits and high mountain tarns surrounded by the rugged beauty of the...

14. Mount Evans - The Highest Road in North America
May 11, 2009

Ask most people what the highest road in North America is and apart from the inevitable "don't know" your most popular answer is likely to be Pikes Peak. In fact the illustrious Pikes Peak Road is the second highest paved highway in North America with first place going to the less well known ...

15. 5 Places to Escape the Crowds in the Lake District
May 08, 2009

The path led on into the upper reaches of the valley. The only sound here was the river somewhere below on my left in a rocky ravine where it flowed back down towards the valley floor spreading into a wide alluvial plain. A lone raven soared above the grey crags up to my right and snow blanke...

16. The English Lake District - A Hikers Guide to Great Gable
April 30, 2009

The iconic peak of Great Gable, a favorite of many Lakeland fellwalkers and the centrepiece of "Britain's Favorite View" is a rewarding objective for the walker visiting the Lake District. The 2949 foot (899m) summit is situated in the west of Lakeland and it is from that side of the region o...

17. Ten Places to Visit in Snowdonia National Park
April 28, 2009

Snowdonia National Park or Eryri - which means place of the eagles in Welsh - covers over 830 square miles of North Wales, much of it remote moorland and mountain country. Even though the region is somewhere I've been visiting since childhood, it would be difficult to pick my favorite places ...

18. Visiting Britain's National Parks - The Lake District

Whether you're thinking of visiting Britain this year or like me, you're a local thinking of staying at home, Cumbria's Lake District National Park offers scenery rarely surpassed elsewhere in Europe. The region, established as a National Park in 1951, is known for its distinctive landscape of grey ...

19. Travels in Colorado - Rocky Mountain National Park
April 03, 2009

The sign by the roadside informed me that I was 2 miles above sea level. This is the kind of information I am more used to getting from an airline captain than a road sign and as the engine laboured in the thin air I rounded the last bend and climbed past stunted pine trees towards the top of...
