A sedentary lifestyle is a medical term used to denote a type of lifestyle with a lack of enough physical exercise to remain healthy. It is found in the developed world and is characterized by performing light activities such as household chores, walking and sitting for much of the day with little or no vigorous physical exercise. It is known to contribute to a wide range of serious health problems and disease. This lack of physical exercise is one of the leading causes of preventable death worldwide contributing to age related disease and premature death. We also now have the knowledge about how not doing enough muscle building and maintaining exercise influences and hastens the aging process itself. Lack of proper exercise causes shrinking and weakening of the muscles and bones and accordingly increases susceptibility to physical injury. Additionally, physical strength and fitness is correlated with immune system function. Any reduction in physical fitness is generally accompanied by a weakening of the immune system leaving one exposed to the risk of serious disease. Despite the well-known benefits of physical activity, many adults and many children lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle and are not active enough to meet the bare minimum requirements of the human body to remain healthy and well. Our bodies respond to the messages that we send them and when signals are not been received that strength is needed the downward spiral of declining health is started. We used to believe that this was because of aging but it has now been proven over and over again that it is simply a lack of vigorous activity, We may like to believe that we can get by without it and that we are just fine the way we are ? and you might well be ? for now. But you will pay dearly for this belief as when the years start to accumulate they will also bring a deterioration of the quality of your life. Slowly, bit by bit, an outgoing tide will suck the life force from you and it is such a shame as it is not necessary. To stop this happening you simply need to stay strong right throughout your life regardless of how old you are. We each lose around one half pound of muscle tissue each year starting from the mid 20's through disuse. With a proper program of strength training exercise much of this loss can be prevented. All it takes is 2-3 sessions each week giving the body what it needs to stimulate the chemicals that tell every single cell, tissue, organ and system in the human body to rebuild, repair, replace and renew. You will get back such a lot of very important health benefits from so little time and effort expended. Rather than just hoping you don't get sick and let those down around you take action and be proactive and make sure you do what is necessary be and remain truly healthy and well. Seek the help of a fitness professional to make sure your exercise program is going to deliver to you the results you need in the most effective and safe manner.
