The purpose of this article is help the reader with some of the methods that I used to improve my bench press max. After reading this article one should have learned a few helpful tips on how you can improve your max. Without further delay let’s begin. Here’s my story of how I increased my bench by over 45 pounds. I stopped working out for a while and decided to start lifting again. Things weren’t as easy as they were in high school now that I was a little older. It seemed like I was starting over again. I couldn’t lift as much as I had before but I was determined to improve my bench press. I used to work out mainly chest only about five days a week but have learned, since then that the practices that I once used in the past are no longer up to date. After doing some more research I found that lifting only two to three times a week is best because it allows my muscles more time to recover. Not only does lifting less weight give me more time to recover but it also gives me better work outs and allowed me to increase my weight much faster as well. Some people I know only do bench press exercises only once a week! Anyway I also started to do Isolation workouts after some research, which I’ve never done in high school. If you don’t know what Isolation workouts are, its just when you work out one area of your body only. For example on the days that I work out my triceps I will not bench. I will only work on my triceps. You are almost always using your triceps with any kind of press exercise that you do however, if you are not specifically working on your triceps only you are not maximizing the amount of weight that particular muscle can lift. So you are probably only lifting 70 to 80 percent of the maximum amount of weight that you can lift when you are not isolating specific muscles. With my new found knowledge, I went isolation crazy. After a few weeks I was amazed with the results. I was actually lifting more than I did when I was in high school. I had increased my max by over 45 pounds! It wasn’t that much more than what I used to lift in high school, but after not lifting weight for some years, I think it’s a huge amount of progress. I’ll have to admit, it wasn’t just the isolation techniques that improved my strength. I also had the help of an e-book that I had bought online. But the isolation techniques helped out a lot. In conclusion if you want to improve your max then one should have learned by reading this article that Isolation techniques and research can drastically increase your bench press. Additionally don’t be afraid to change the workout routine that you had in the past. Sometimes what you don’t know can hurt you! If I can improve my bench at my age then anyone can.
