Yoga is very effective for treating neck, shoulder and back pain. It is very personal and gentle to meet your physical needs. Competitive it is not. You allow your body to be your guide and work as deep or As shallow as you body needs at that time. One day may be different from another. Stretching and holding the pose to its natural resistance, letting go to a deeper level if wished. The opposite is to go into pain and that is not the desired result. Keep your back straight when at your desk, is your body compensating for imbalance? Are you leaning forward, to the side, hunched? Long periods at your desk can cause the above shortening the muscles in your front torso and your back muscles lengthening and becoming weak. Leading chronic neck, shoulder and back pain. So keep aware of your posture. Leave your desk and walk around and stretch briefly just to counter any imbalance. Ideally exercise daily, this will help to redress any contracted muscles and lubricate joints through inaction. It will give greater confidence and your body will benefit on many levels.
