backpian yoga and they will tell you how the exercises help and ease back pain as the stretching, toning, strengthening that is going on will help. As you get to know more about your body you will find that STRESS is a great contributor to back pain, with yoga practice this can be helped as well. Yoga philosophy clearly asks that you to move in a way that you do not force, strain and in a meditative way. A way of 'letting go' if you like. Practicing in a way that is harmonious with mind, body and spirit, for some that may be difficult to practice, as with all things practice makes perfect. The longest journey starts with the first step, You have already started by reading this.
As I and many yoga instructors have found that with back pain sufferers, the best results are those who approach their issue's (back pain) from a position of yoga's spiritual message and better still with a yoga instructor. And it may be a case of looking one who 'fits' your needs.
As you will learn that the ancient system of yoga and postures will challenge and educate you on your body's alignment. In our western ways (if you live in the west) we sit for hours at a time with little or no movement. Our activities are minimal, travelling to work, sat at a computer or desk and going home again. This is where we lose in our joints and certain places muscle integrity. Practicing yoga will help align and develop muscles around joints and make them pliable.
When you support yourself in the yoga postures your muscles will work where they are close to their joints. Eventually your posture will improve you will have more ability to move your body freely. Now with muscles being stronger, flexible and balanced your back pain may go away. With little effort many people are often surprised that doing something simple as a few stretches can help lose back pain and give them a better quality of life!
There is also an emphasis with yoga on the spiritual. Practicing yoga along with meditation can relieve stress and bring peace to a situation and calmness. It is said that a good 20 minute meditation is equivalent to 8 hours of sleep. I know from practice when I used to work shifts in the paper industry this is what I practiced and it certainly helped me.
