Traditional and Modern Scottish Gift Ideas

Hobbies
When we are speaking about Scottish gift ideas and souvenirs, most of us would think of Scottish tartan. Tartan is a fabric and a pattern that can be found on countless items of clothing and products. If you originate from Scotland it is likely you will be familiar with the origin of tartan as it has been a part of the Scottish past for generations. The Act of Proscription was responsible for making it illegal to wear the Highland Dress, including tartan or a kilt, in an attempt to bring the warrior clans under the control of the government by crushing Gaelic culture. Luckily, in 1782 along came King George III who made it legal once again. To a true Scotsman, tartan is a symbol of tradition and pride as well as historical battles.

Tartan comes in many patterns, colours and designs. Scottish tartan identifies the clan you are from. A clan doesn’t identify family origins, but the area of Scotland you were born. Each clan has their own unique pattern of tartan and this is what identifies them from each other.

The most popular items on the market in tartan are blankets and kilts. Visit Scotland today and you will see all manner of Scottish gifts bedecked in tartan, from the traditional kilt to biscuit tins, blankets, scarves and teddies, even notebooks and writing sets can be covered in tartan and look trendy and attractive.

If you are touring around Scotland, you will find plenty of Scottish gifts and souvenirs that can be brought home for friends and family. Scottish cities are great for shopping as they are so individual to each other. Glasgow is proud of its Princes Square mall with designer names, such as Calvin Klein or Lacoste, or quality Scottish souvenirs and crafts can be found there.

When coming to Edinburgh there will be a far different feel to the city. The designer shops as well as with the department stores the can be found in Princes Street, some have been established for years. There are unique Boutique shops at Georges Street and if you are interested in antiques or looking for some Scottish gift ideas then try the Grass market area and Victoria Street.

If it is tartan you are looking for, then Leith is where Kinloch Anderson, manufacturers and retailers of the highland dress, have been established for over a century. They can find them in Leith where they offer a huge range of tartan.

Scottish people love to travel and can be found living all over the world. Many have travelled and then settled in America, Asia or Europe and had families. Scotland remains, however, their first home and where their roots are. If you want to buy a gift for someone from this amazing land then why not pick something that will remind them of their birth home, it will be greatly appreciate.

If you are living far away from home or have a friend who is homesick for the highlands, the check out buying Scottish gifts online. You will find all sorts of fun items, traditional Scottish products and souvenirs that can awaken fond memories of home. From the traditional Scottish items to novelty products, whether you are looking for something cheap or something with higher quality, you should find something that will appeal. Buying online is so simple, and they will even deliver it to the address of your asking. Some gift ideas to consider are sweets and biscuits, scarves and hats, notebooks and writing pads and glassware and t-shirts. The list is endless.

There are all types of Scottish souvenir gifts to be found. If you are seeking a novelty or fun item, try a musical ‘see you jimmy’ hat complete with orange hair. It will play a rendition of Scotland’s favorite anthem, Scotland the Brave. If food is your preference, then try Scottish Tablet or traditional Edinburgh Rock, these will bring memories flooding back.

If it is something longer lasting you want then how about a Scottish flag beach towel? Or write your letters home on a writing set complete with tartan trimmed paper and a tartan pen beautifully presented in a presentation box.

Take a look online for novelty Scottish souvenir gifts and souvenirs for all ages and you will definitely bring a smile to a Scottish face.
