Who Killed Jesus?

Christianity
There's been a lot of talk lately that the Jewish people are "Christ Killers". Not true! In the New Testament the Jewish religious leaders on many occasions tried to apprehend Jesus only to have Jesus walk through the crowd without being touched, because His time hadn't come yet.

I was reading The Epoch News on my computer about an anti-semitism bill that the legislature is considering making hate speech against the Jewish people illegal. The bill would also make it illegal to call or insinuate that the Jewish people are "Christ killers." Does the Bible insinuate that the Jewish race is responsible for the death of Jesus Christ?

I have been a Christian since the early 70's and have heard this argument many times. Usually, the debate is between either the Jews or the Romans, and sometimes both. The argument could be avoided altogether if people knew more about the New Testament.

Let's look at what the Bible teaches us about Jesus' death. In John 10:17-19, Jesus is telling us that no one takes his life and Jesus has the power to lay down His life and the power to take it up again. John 10:17-19, "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."

By reading Jesus' own words "no one takes it from me" we can see that Jesus went voluntarily to the cross. We can also see the power of Christ when the Jewish religious leaders went to arrest Jesus and they asked. Are you Jesus? Jesus replied "I am" upon hearing Jesus' answer the religious leaders and all who were with them, fell to the ground. (John 18:5-6) Jesus could have walked away at that moment and didn't. Why?

As we will see in the next two verses Jesus wasn't going to walk away because it was His mission to be the sacrifice to save all of mankind from the curse that goes with sinning. When John the Baptist first saw Jesus he said "Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. John 1:29. Jesus also tells us in John 10:15 and in John 10:17, that He lays His own life down

John 10:15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. John 10:17 "Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.

I would then have to conclude that the religious leaders didn't kill Jesus because He could have walked away at any time. The same would also have to be said about the Romans who nailed Jesus to the cross. When you consider all the miracles Jesus did in His ministry, Raising at least three people from the dead, making the people who were blind at birth see, and many more miracles too numerous to mention all proving to anybody willing to see that this man is God. No human has ever had the power to perform these miracles in all of human history!

So, Who killed Jesus? Consider this, Christ died for our sins! Like it or not, we are all sinners. We all sin because we were all born with a sinful nature. We read this in Romans 3:22-24, "even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,"

I think it's silly when I hear people claiming that they are not a sinner, They obviously can't see themselves as God sees them and have never read the Bible not knowing the true definition of what a sinner is. We also can see in Romans 3:9-11, that we are all sinners, "What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin. As it is written: "There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God." Instead of comparing yourself to another human being, try comparing yourself to an angelic being or even Jesus and see how you do.

So in conclusion, Who killed Jesus? It was you and me! Jesus gave himself freely to the Romans to pay the price for our sins. It was a price we couldn't pay! Jesus was the only one who ever lived who never sinned and the only one qualified to pay the price for all of mankind to be reconciled back to God. In 1 Corinthians 15:3, we can see that it was Jesus' mission in life to be the sacrificial "Lamb of God" "For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,"

Blaming any race of people for the death of Christ is showing everybody just how ignorant of the New Testament they are. Keep in mind, If Christ hadn't died for our sins we would all stay condemned and have no hope of eternal life. We should all thank Jesus for the wonderful gift He has given to everybody who accepts His sacrifice.
