Lukla to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar is the most famous trekking itinerary in the Everest Region. It takes eight days to reach Everest Base Camp from Lukla. You reach Lukla with a short, adventurous flight on a small aircraft from Kathmandu. However, the flights to Lukla are operated from Ramechhap during the busy trekking seasons due to the air traffic in Kathmandu. After you land at Lukla Airport, you walk to Phakding on the same day, which is the shortest trekking day of the Everest Base Camp Trek. After spending the first night of your mountain stay in Phakding, you trek further to Namche Bazaar on the next day. You spend two nights in Namche Bazaar for altitude practice and hike up to the Hotel Everest View on a spare day. After Namche Bazaar, you trek to Tengboche, which is located on a hill station. You can see magnificent views of Mt. Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Khangteka, Lhotse, Nuptse, Taboche, Everest, and more from this hill. You can also join the regular worship in the Buddhist monastery in Tengboche with the monks in the evening. After Tengboche, you trek to Dingboche and stay another two nights for the second altitude practice. You will be above the treeline today and will have open mountain views every second. During the second altitude practice hike from Dingboche, you climb Nangkartshang Hill. During this acclimatization walk, you can see Nepal's fourth and world's fifth highest mountains, Makalu, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and many other high mountains. You will also see tranquil glacial lakes and valleys from this hill station. After well-climatization, you trek to Lobuche through Thukla Pass. There are lots of memorials to dead climbers on the top of Thukla, including Sccot Fishier. The trail after the memorials goes pretty flat, but it will be windy. You start earlier to walk compared to the other trekking days from Lobuche because you trek to Gorakshep, hike to Everest Base Camp, and then go back to Gorakshep to sleep. So, it will be a long trekking and hiking day for the Base Camp Trek. After a night's stay in Gorakshep, you hike to Kala Patthar and return to Pheriche, Namche, and Lukla. Alternatively, you can fly out directly to Kathmandu from Gorakshep if you do not have enough time to trek back to Lukla or do not want to walk on the same trail that you already walked on your way up, which is the Everest Base Camp Helicopter Return Trek. For those who cannot trek in the high altitudes and cold temperatures or lack time for a long mountain trek but are interested in reaching close to the world’s highest mountain while traveling in Nepal, there is a luxury and fast option for them. The Everest Base Camp Helicopter Tour is the best option to explore the Everest Himalayas luxuriously and quickly from Kathmandu.
