Everest Base Camp Trekking Short Itinerary

If you do not have time to complete the classic itinerary of the Everest Base Camp Trek or do not want to trek back the same way, which you already walked on your way up, you have the best option of doing a short trek. The helicopter Return trek is the quickest way to visit the world’s highest mountain base camp and Kala Patthar and explore magnificent mountain views.

During this short Base Camp trekking trip, you follow the regular trekking itinerary up to the base camp and Kalapatthar, which takes eight days after leaving Kathmandu, including two acclimatization days in Namche and Dingboche. You fly out on a helicopter from Gorakshep directly to Kathmandu on the 9th day to complete the trek, so you have a walking and scenic helicopter ride experience from this trip.

Every traveling destination has unique attractions and highlights that attract visitors. So, there are several magnificent things to see and explore. By seeing those attractions, you will be spellbound. Check out the highlights of the Everest Base Camp trek below:

•Scenic, adventurous flight and landing experience on short and sloped runways

•Walking inside a natural UNESCO world heritage site, Sagarmatha National Park

•Captivating landscapes, charming valleys, massive glaciers, magnificent mountain views, rivers, waterfalls, wildlife, and religious monuments •Typical Sherpa villages, lifestyles, and daily activities

The Best Time to Trek to Everest Base Camp

Of course! Choosing the right season plays a vital role in seeing magnificent views and making a successful trip. September to November in the autumn and March to May in the spring are the best times to trek to Everest Base Camp. Although the first half of September and the second half of May may have some rainy days and poor visibility, Autumn starts right after the monsoon, so all the summer rain clears the haze and makes the climate crystal clear. You can see amazing mountain views even from afar in the autumn. There will be very few chances of rainy days and flight cancellations to Lukla to start the trek in the autumn season.

The spring season has hazy days, some snow, and sometimes hail. The visibility is not very good from a distance, but the mountains look brighter from a closer distance. The months in spring are warmer compared to the autumn months in the Everest region and the other mountain regions.

December offers the best mountain views from morning to evening, but it starts winter this month. Winter offers clear visibility, but the temperatures in the mountains remain freezing. Likewise, I do not recommend trekking in the summer, but there will be some clear days in the summer.

Other Trekking Trails in the Everest Himalayas

Of course! Everest Base Camp is the most popular trekking destination in the Everest region, but there are several amazing trails in the Himalayas. Some trails take you to the base camp, but some don’t, and you will explore awe-inspiring natural and cultural attractions from each route.

The Everest Three High Passes trek is the best one for those who have around three weeks, are regular hikers, and have visited the higher elevations often. You will cross three major high hills, Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La, on this trek, which covers all the beauties of the Everest region. I suggest going on this trip counter-clockwise through Koingmala, visiting Base Camp, Chola to go to Gokyo Valley, and Renjo La to go to Thame Valley at the end. The anti-clockwise route is easier and has less climbing than the clockwise route.

The Cho La Pass trek is the second most popular trek in the Everest region and covers Base Camp, Gokyo Lakes, and Gokyo Ri. But crossing Cho La Pass can be a challenging task for trekkers. If you have two to three extra days with the EBC itinerary and like adventure, the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes trip can be the best.

Gokyo Lakes is a peace route that goes through the Gokyo Valley. You will see tranquil glacial lakes and the best view of the world’s highest mountain, Everest, from Gokyo Ri and the fifth lake in a quiet environment. You will walk on the Everest Base Camp trail for the first three and a half days and split to the left to go to Gokyo Lakes through the Gokyo Valley for this trek.

After visiting Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri, you may return the same route to Lukla to fly back to Kathmandu or go over Renjo La Pass, which is a similar length of the trip, but Renjo La can be a bit tougher than using the same way back.

You can also explore the Everest Himalayas within a couple of hours in a luxurious way if you do not have time for a long trek or cannot walk in the high altitudes and cold temperatures. A 4-5-hour scenic Everest Helicopter tour brings you directly to the foot of the world's highest mountain and Kala Patthar from Kathmandu, landing on several vantage viewpoints from where you can observe magnificent mountain views.
