Acrylic Versus Slatwall Displays

Business

The difference between acrylic and Slatwall displays could be a determining factor for any business to coordinate and showcase merchandise properly. Both options act as a fantastic point of purchase (POP) displays that can be set up in any business space to have branded, high-quality, or expensive items highlighted beyond standard merchandise. On the one hand, acrylic display cases are cheaper and lighter than glass, which does not limit consumer visibility. On the other hand, Slatwall display cases are heavier and more durable that come with laminated or wood grain hooks or shelves.

The Basics

Unlike Slatwall, acrylic display cases can be crafted with engaging case designs to promote advertising and branding better. Backlight screening and electronic graphics can also be embedded on the acrylic backsides. Dimensions and sizes vary, which can complement or organize any retail environment. These displays' downside is that they negate premium look and feel to optimize economic business investments. Also, standard acrylic can scratch and smudge easily, even when cleaned with light chemicals, unless business owners invest in a scratch-resistant acrylic option. Otherwise, acrylic display cases are an excellent business choice for businesses wanting to balance affordability, branding, and visibility.

Then Slatwall display cases are elaborate gondola merchandising fixtures made from either metal or wood. Contrary to acrylic, Slatwall can be painted to match branding and logo colors or to match store themes. Although these cases are heavy, the alternative is Slatwall panels that can even be installed on walls, and merchandise can be hung or put on added shelves to improve merchandising, organization, and sales. Given the bulkiness and weight of Slatwall options, placement and position are limited.

Comparison

The display quality of acrylic is clear and does not obscure the view of the merchandise. Additionally, it is shatterproof but can be easily damaged by ammonia-based or window cleaners. Still, acrylic is cost-effective and easy to repair. The other slightly more expensive option is glass, which is easier to clean and maintain. Yet, acrylic cases are preferred over glass cases since acrylic offers greater aging and fading prevention and UV light protection. Businesses in commerce, entertainment, interior design, optics, or transportation industries commonly use versatile acrylics in their displays.

Slatwall systems are easy to install in any retail setting, and cheaper aluminum options are just as durable as their metal and wood counterparts. Comparatively, Slatwall systems have more combinations and utilities than their acrylic display counterparts. Hangers, hooks, and shelving can be added to any arrangement to meet business needs, including back-of-the-house storage. Standard Slatwall solutions are 4 x 8 feet (1.2 x 2.4 meters), but with some manual fabrications, they can be cut into smaller sections, as securing Slatwall, regardless of size, is relatively consistent. Furthermore, Slatwall is known to be accented or reinforced with other materials to make this option long-lasting. For business owners that desire a high return on investment that emphasizes sustainability, Slatwall should be considered over acrylic, especially if it is a business that exists as a boutique or kiosk, has limited space, or specializes in hard- or houseware (i.e., tools).
