As we’ve said in previous pieces, recruitment is not nearly as challenging as it once was, at least as far as logistics and research into individual applicants and candidates tends to go. The communication and information age, or the digital age as we generally refer to a, has made a lot of aspects of everyday life, as well as business, a lot easier. Even those of us old enough to plainly remember a time before these conveniences, tend to take all of this for granted now. We also take for granted the fact that we haven’t got the privacy and ability to out run silly mistakes in our youth, alas. But that doesn’t mean that a recruitment agency in Galway or elsewhere isn’t still extremely useful for your staffing needs. Ask anyone in HR just how difficult their job really is, from many fronts. Not only are they regarded as the reviled Sheriff of Nottingham by existing staff, but they have to make critical decisions in choosing candidates, something that could make or break a company’s future, or on a more microscopic level, result in either swimming success within a department, or severe conflict and utter failure, costing money and putting them in rather hot water. IT recruitment agencies are especially valuable, because IT is a tricky industry to say the least. Let’s talk a little bit about the particular challenges of IT recruitment, because it is a real beast. IT is a broad field… So, technically, IT stands for information technology, but even if you go by the most clinical definition, it could mean anything. People use the term IT to refer to just about anything computer, infrastructure and tech-related within a business, from getting the copiers to work all the way up to administrating servers, security and databases. Tech support, web presences, even some aspects of social media and marketing often get folded into this field as well, meaning that there are a wide range of technical skills and qualifications that have to be handled. HR hates having to recruit IT, and it’s a completely understandable thing. Sociology is a special challenge for IT! Tech people, don’t be offended by this, because I am a tech person myself primarily, and I will say that this describes me every bit as much as it does the rest of you. IT people tend to be, in general, somewhat antisocial and less than interested in people. It just comes with our makeup, we get along with machines much better than people, and we tend to be somewhat impatient with people, because we don’t have to explain things in creative ways to those machines, they understand what they are programmed to understand. Thus, a recruitment agency in Galway specializing in IT recruitment needs to be able to really pick out those IT people, where applicable, that know how to handle people. IT people often don’t need to, but the ones that are going to be serving roles where they have to regularly interact with staff, let alone customers, need to be a rarer breed of qualified individual.
