The short, grey days of a northern European winter can be hard to bear, but nothing will pick you up like a stay in a luxury hotel on an indulgent beach holiday. Whether you choose southern Europe or somewhere further-flung, feeling the heat of the sun on your skin, warm water to swim in and soft sand under your feet is enough to restore anyone’s mojo. And it doesn’t matter how long you go for: although obviously two weeks is glorious, a short break will do the trick, too. Listening to the waves gently lapping on the shores is guaranteed to soothe most troubles away. Here are my top recommendations for beach holiday destinations. Close to Home Of course, if you don’t want to venture too far then you might have to wait until the spring for your beach holiday, but believe me, a destination like Croatia will be worth the wait. By May, temperatures here are up in the 20ºCs, and the resort towns along the Dalmatian coast welcome many visitors who long to bask in the warm sunshine. Stunning Mediterranean architecture, delicious local food and elegant hotels are all part of the package here, and luxury is never hard to find. I usually stay at the Zlatni Rat Beach Hotel on Zlatni Rat, one of Croatia’s finest stretches of sand. This luxury hotel is practically on the sand, so all you need to do is wake up and stroll outside. Bliss. An Exotic Choice For those who dream of an exotic beach holiday, Morocco is the perfect destination. After a relatively short journey, you will find yourself in another world of ancient charms and stunning landscapes. The beaches of Morocco are fabulous – and none more so than the legendary Agadir. This is a great location for anyone who wants a little more than just lying in the sun. Agadir is a world-class destination, offering a large range of water sports and activities for those who like to have fun in the sun. However, be aware that there is an undertow here, which can be a little challenging for younger children. For a spot of luxury in Agadir, I recommend the Iberostar Founty Beach resort. Not only does the all-inclusive price mean that you needn’t worry about extra costs, but there are also two swimming pools, a wonderful spa, and five places to eat! Bust the Budget The soft pink sand, crystal clear waters and stunning climate of Bermuda puts the island in a category of its own as a luxury destination. Whether you want to relax by the sea, are looking for the ultimate spa break or want to enjoy a golfing holiday in the sun, Bermuda will have just what you’re looking for. From its indulgent five-star hotels to its excellent fine dining restaurants, this is an island that knows how to spoil its guests! When I visit, I tend to stay at the Pompano Beach Club on Pompano Beach, which was voted the best stretch of sand in the world by Bride Magazine. With an excellent restaurant looking out over the sea, a golf course, a tennis court and no less than three outdoor Jacuzzis, this really is my idea of heaven. Wherever you choose to go on your luxury beach holiday, one thing is for sure: you’ll come home feeling refreshed and revived, and ready for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
