This professional is a specialized consultant that assists members of senior communities about investing and saving their money to be able to properly fund their lifestyle after retirement. They are considered a personal Chicago financial advisor who has specialized in the retirement planning financial field. There are also some that have not specialized in this field but still offer retirement planning along with their other financial services. In order to become a retirement Chicago financial advisor you will need to have a bachelor’s degree. The fields that are most helpful in this career are business, accounting, and finance. The courses that you take in college to get your bachelor’s degree should cover estate planning, taxes, and investments. These will best prepare you for your career in financial planning. Some colleges are now offering specialized degree programs for those who have chosen the career of financial planners. If you chose to become a retirement Chicago financial adviser that is capable of buying and selling insurance policies, stocks, and bonds as a part of the services that you offer you will also need to be licensed to offer these services. You can find specific information on which type of licensing a firm or individual will need in North America from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the North American Securities Administrator Association. The licensing requirements will vary by state in the United States. To become a retirement Chicago financial advisor additional certifications can also be useful. They will help to show your clients that you are a reputable financial advisor that stays current in the field of financial planning that is ever-changing. One example of the additional certifications that you can get is the credentials of being a Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) from the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. To get this credential you have to complete the required educational courses, pay certification fees, have a minimum of three years of qualifying experience, and pass an examination. Another credential that is useful to become a retirement Chicago financial advisor is the Society of Certified Retirement Financial Advisors™ (CRFA®). To get this certification you have to have at least two years equivalent training or experience in the fields of tax preparation and planning, the investment industry, and insurance. You will also have to have a working knowledge of trusts as they apply to planning for retirement. To get your certification you will have to take the CRFA® exam. The proper certification and education will help you become established as a retirement Chicago financial advisor but to continue to be successful in the field will require you to make a continuing effort to stay up-to-date on news and trends in the areas of economics, tax laws, and financial planning.
