Valley of Fire Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, the Valley of Fire is located about one hour northeast of Las Vegas, in the Mojave Desert. Known for its amazing red sandstone rock formations, the park covers 35,000 acres. When the rocks reflect the sun’s rays, they appear to be on fire, which is how the area earned its name. Hoover Dam Located just 30 minutes south of the Vegas Strip is the Hoover Dam, dedicated by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. Today, it is the second tallest dam in the U.S. Tours are available. You'll be amazed by the panoramic view of the Colorado River and Lake Mead atop an observational deck located above the dam.
