Most homeowners today have come to the realization of the importance of purchasing a backup generator as one of the ways of ensuring safety at home. We are no longer living in the day when all you needed was several candles for you to endure any power outage. There are dangers that include thunderstorms and freak accidents that can easily cut your home of the main power grid for several hours. Today there are unpredictable weather patterns that bring along the most severe weather in places where people were accustomed to fair weather. When you combine all these with increasing shortages and power failures from the grid, you see the reason a generator for home is no longer a luxury. Size and cost: If you are wondering how much you are likely to spend buying a backup generator for home, you need to know something about generator sizes. There are large automatic generac generators that can completely power an entire large home that can cost you a good sum of money; you need to consult with an electrical contractor who will professionally size up your house so they can recommend the right size of generator for your home. You could also consider emergency generators that can only run basic lighting, the refrigerator and heating whenever there is an outage. Since hot water tanks and stoves require more electrical energy, you may also want to consider a backup generator that can run both sets of appliances but not simultaneously. There are high end generators that run quietly and which are ideas for homeowners who don’t enjoy the noise levels of common generators. Portable generators: There are portable generac generators that you can use for a temporary supply of power to your home during an outage but you need to realize it can only last for so long. A good quality generator for home is one that will last until you run out of fuel; many discerning homeowners normally have sufficient fuel to last them several days. Portable generac generators can be set up and started manually. These generators are affordable for anyone who wants to buy and in most cases you can actually rent one; don’t wait until danger is imminent of severe weather bites because generators for rent can be in high demand during such times. Emergency generator installation: Most backup generator are of considerable weight and will require a concrete slab where they will be placed. There are models that will also need a support pad but there is till need that you prepare a flat area where water drainage has been taken care of. The place where you install your backup generator needs should be well ventilated because you want to avoid having exhaust fumes getting back into your home. The process of connecting a generac generator to electric wires is sensitive and as such, you need to call a qualified electrical contractor to do your installation.
