Most people forget all about their air conditioning units during the winter months because chances are they will not have a chance of putting them on. This will normally be reflected in slightly lower bills especially in relation to cooling the house; this usually means that the AC unit has been idle for quite some time. Depending on where you live, there are always chances that you have some uninvited guests inside; wisdom demands that an AC repair contractor has a look at it when summer is setting in. When the AC professional comes to service you unit, there are several things they are likely to find inside which include: Lizards and geckos: You should already know that these little creatures love taking over any idle AC units to make comfortable homes for their families; many of them will also die in there. This is why you will find quite a number of them; these creatures may be small but you should realize that they could easily stop your air conditioner from functioning optimally; always perform a good cleaning if the AC has been idle for a few months. Dog urine: For those who keep the AC unit and the dog in the same space, you can be sure that the coils will definitely get a beating. When your dog sprays its concentrated urine in the same spot for a while it easily becomes corrosive. You may have seen dog urine corroding refrigerant coils and this will cause some serious leakage. This refrigerant is what actually cools the house and any time it has a leakage, only a qualified AC repair service professional will fix it for you. You may want to save your air conditioner from this type of damage by erecting a fence or panting some bushes that will keep the dog away. However, if you plant bushes, they should not be very close to the unit and they should always be trimmed to stay at least 4 inches away from the unit at all times. Dust: Perhaps you believe that when the air filter in your AC unit is changed regularly there is no room for dust inside; nothing is further from the truth. There are many other areas inside your air conditioner that can easily keep dust and several other airborne substances which will eventually affect the smooth operation of the unit. Get an AC installation service open up the system and check it carefully and you will be surprised at the lower bills as well as a smoother operation. Apart from the dust, you will also be surprised to discover pieces of lint from your clothes dryers; this is especially the case when the AC’s condenser coils and the dryer’s vents are next to each other. A clogged air conditioner doesn’t perform optimally, you pay higher energy bills and you decrease its life span.
