Snoring is common. You might find that you or your sleeping partner or someone in your family snores at some point. Light or heavy, soft or loud, a lot of people snore. It is common for all ages, races, and sizes, and for both men and women. No matter who you are, there is a chance that you snore. Generally, it is not a problem. While it may annoy some, snoring itself has no negative side effects. It does not affect your health or sleep and you can live happily for a long time. That is if it is actually snoring. Sometimes, there is more to it than that. Snoring is not always snoring. In some individuals, it is actually sleep apnea. Sleep apnea causes strange breathing patterns in your sleep and may cause you to stop breathing entirely while asleep. Some people do not know the difference between the two and might view sleep apnea as a more severe form of snoring. Doing so is dangerous. As stated, sleep apnea can cause you to stop breathing, which would put your life at risk, obviously. You will want to find treatment if you realize that you have sleep apnea before it starts to affect your health and well-being. Sleep apnea will not appear as normal snoring. There are strange behaviors and sounds that will come along with it. You will hear coughs, choking, gasping, and other breaks in the snoring. Another problem is if the snoring is loud and constant, more severe than average snoring. It affects more than your snoring, too. It causes you to become exhausted, irritated, moody, and feeling as if you have not slept at all. Even if you stayed asleep throughout the entire night, you will feel as if you have only had an hour or two of sleep. Speak with your sleeping partner, record yourself sleeping, or listen to the person snoring. To figure out if you are dealing with sleep apnea, you have to listen to the snoring. If there is anything troublesome in the sound or behavior, you should speak with a professional. You should make sure that you take action right away. Sleep apnea is not something that you will want to ignore or avoid at all. It can put your health at risk or that of the person snoring. With appropriate guidance and advice, you can treat the sleep apnea and sleep better at night.
