If you are in need of an executive, whether it's a CEO, CFO, department head, or anyone else, you know that it can be a time consuming task. You cannot hire just anyone for the position and that means that a lot of interviews and background checks have to be conducted. An executive search does not have to be time consuming and it doesn't have to be executed entirely by you. There are recruiting companies that specialize in hiring executives. By working with one of these companies, they will take on the responsibility of hiring someone for you. The recruiter will: - Meet with you - Learn about the company and the position - Conduct a search of qualified candidates - Search the resumes - Conduct preliminary interviews - Run background checks All of these tasks can be done for you, which saves you a significant amount of time. You don't want to spend the bulk of your time looking at resumes and scheduling interviews. Until the executive search is complete, you may be in that role yourself. Depending on the company you work with, the executive search can take less than a week. In some instances, particularly when the position is a critical one, you may be able to get a temporary replacement. This will allow you to put someone into the spot for the interim, which can take the pressure off of you. When it's not as critical to find someone, you can relax and begin to conduct more in-depth interviews. This can simplify the executive search because you will be able to learn more about the candidate and determine whether they are the right person for the company or not. You may want to invite a candidate to spend a week inside the company. They can explore the operations, get a feel for the overall culture, and ask questions. You want a good fit for the company and you want to make sure the candidate is happy with the position to avoid high turnover. Particularly when it's an executive position, you cannot afford to have the person quit after a week or a month. These positions are ones that you most likely want to keep someone in for years at a time because it provides stability within the company. Recruiters are willing and able to do a majority of the executive search for you. They have the know-how to perform the search and may have some candidates already lined up as a result of searching for other companies. They may not have worked for another company, but they may be just right for yours. Regardless of the size of your company, you cannot risk hiring an executive that may not be the right fit. Recruiters will be able to perform the search and then schedule a few of the best candidates with you so that you can then make the final decision. It saves you time and gets better candidates in front of you.
