Titleist has a habit of upgrading its club offerings every couple of years, which means it is time this fall for the latest iteration of its Titleist AP1 714 and AP2 irons. Company technicians say these are designed to deliver longer flight with increased forgiveness and a more solid feel.
While part of the same iron family and geared toward serious golfers, the models have slightly different targets. The AP1 is more of a game-improvement product for the aspiring golfer, with a multimaterial, dual-cavity design. But it also has a market at the highest levels of the game, as evidenced by Ben Curtis putting them into his bag this past season.
As for the cheap titleist ap2 714, they are multimaterial forged irons, with the better player the primary customer. And they have already made some noise on tour: Jordan Spieth won his first career PGA Tour event, the John Deere Classic, with them, while Jason Dufner used the new AP2s to win the 2013 PGA Championship.
Titleist has kindly included Golfmagic in this process so I can bring you the most in-depth review of the prototype 714 Series irons as soon as they are officially launched. Golfmagic will play and practice with the new Titleist AP 714 Prototype irons (4-PW) at Royal Lytham & St Annes on Monday in a special Titleist 714 Championship
I will have my iron set up reviewed by the Titleist Tour Fitting Technicians on the Titleist Tour Support Vehicle before hitting my first tee shot to the short par-3 first, so it will be interesting to see if they recommend any changes based on the new performance features. My irons will then be put to the test in the Titleist 714 Championship.
The new Titleist 714 prototype series includes MB, CB, AP1 and AP2 irons.
