There are so many ways to help the planet in today’s day and age. When you want to use green architecture within your design, there are five top ways to do this. You will want to work with an architect that is familiar with green designs and who you are comfortable is capable of providing you with innovative designs for your home or office building. Sustainable Materials Various sustainable materials can be used within your design. There is no reason for you to use materials that require natural resources to be pulled from the earth. For example, utilizing steel is a great way to go forward with green architecture because it is one of the most recycled materials on the planet. Any time you can use products that are already available or that last for significant length of time and that do not need to be replaced, you will be able to help the planet. Biodegradable Materials Biodegradable materials can also be used within your architectural designs. Such materials include glass, plastic, and even various types of insulation. You will want to speak with an architect that specializes in green designs to provide you with a list of materials that they use on a regular basis. If you find that they aren't biodegradable, you may want to consider working with another architectural firm. Natural Lighting You spend a significant amount of money a year powering the lights in your home or building. Each time you turn on a light, kilowatts are being used in order to provide you with that light – and that means that the electric company is using valuable resources such as oil and gas. The easiest solution is to incorporate various types of natural lighting – large windows, skylights, and doors with windows on them. Energy Star Appliances Energy Star is a logo appearing on more and more appliances. When you see this logo, it demonstrates that the appliances use less energy. You can find them on refrigerators, stoves, air conditioners, and other major appliances. This is part of green architecture as well because you want to be sure that these appliances are installed once the building has been constructed. You will also be able to find other fixtures in your home that use less water. You can install sinks, toilets, and showerheads that reduce the amount of water that you use. Outdoor Space Finally, you want to incorporate outdoor space within the green architecture. You may want to have an open-air lobby, a large patio in your backyard instead of putting it all under air, and various other things. The more you talk to your architect about having outdoor space, the more ideas can be discussed in depth. Be sure to spend the time with the quality architect to ensure you get what you want. Take a look at what an architect has designed in the past and find out how many of the designs are eco-friendly. Once you create a green building, you will be able to benefit from it in many ways – including saving money and helping the planet.
