The average hiring manager has a lot of responsibilities and not a lot of time to get them done. One responsibility is recruiting and this is a major activity that is added to an already full workload. So how can a hiring manager hire skilled worker quickly? In this article we are going to discuss five tips to help hiring managers hire quickly. 1- Create a comprehensive job description – The hiring manager is the best person to create a job description that accurately reflects the talent needed. It is important to also come up with the top three attributes needed for the position. If a candidate does not possess all of these attributes they should not even be considered. 2- Verify that administrative functions are fulfilled – Make sure that job requisitions have been signed off and budgets and salary ranges have been approved. You don’t want anything to hold up the job offer process. 3- Get recruiting help – Recruiting is a full time pursuit, and without assistance hiring managers will be inundated. Help should come from either corporate human recourses or an outside recruiter. They should do the sourcing, resume review, preliminary phone interview, verify they meet the job description, and are in the proper salary range. They should provide the hiring manager with the top three candidates that meet the attributes established. 4- Use Skype or another video service – Most hiring managers want to do an initial phone interview of each candidate to see how they react and what kind of chemistry they will have. If you use technology to do video conferencing you will be able to see the body language and put a face with the name. This will also assist the eye-to-eye interview if you take it to that step. 5- Try to schedule all interviews on the same day – This will help you easily compare the candidates and expedite the hiring process. If you are having a problem deciding between candidates, schedule another interview. It is better to do a second interview than to make a hiring mistake. 6- Don’t delay – As soon as you get through the interviews it is important to make a decision. You may want to change the job description and go through another round of search. On the other hand, you may want to make an offer. If you do, do it as soon as possible. The candidates will be talking and interviewing with other companies, so you want to move quickly. If you run into any delays, let the candidate know that is going on so they know that they are still in the running. Good luck!
