More and more employers are hiring veterans because of their work ethic. After speaking to a number of recruiters and hiring managers, I had a chance to create this article of the “Nine reasons employers want to hire veterans.” A lot of the people I interviewed had the same response to the question, “Why hire vets?” 1. Attendance People with military experience are always on time and know the importance of being at work every day. They always work a full shift and rarely complain about have to work “all day.” A major problem with younger employees is their lack of responsibility and work ethics in the workplace today. 2. Quick Learning Curve Vets have the proven ability to quickly learn new skills and concepts. Most are typically not afraid to tackle new projects or ideas. They will ask questions when necessary and usually never try to “fake it.” Once vets learn something they tend to remember it forever. 3. Integrity Vets know what it means to do an “honest day’s work.” This integrity translates into qualities of sincerity and trustworthiness. 4. Work well under Pressure Vets are trained to work well under pressure. They know how to get things done in a timely manner without “pressuring out.” 5. Teamwork Vets understand the importance of teamwork and how powerful the results can be. They have learned how to get people with diverse backgrounds working into a well oiled machine. 6. Leadership It is a well know fact that vets are trained to lead by example as well as through delegation, motivation, direction, and inspiration. They have followed leaders in the service and know how to motivate and communicate with both peer and management levels. 7. Respect For Management, Policies And Procedures Vets understand how an organization hierarchy works and follow it. They don’t spend a lot of time fighting with management. They also understand how to follow policies and procedures and realize that by doing it they will increase productivity. 8. Integrity Veterans are men and women who are honest, have strong moral principles, have honor, good character, ethics, and are trustworthy. They know what it means to put in an honest day’s work. 9. Problem Solvers Vets have a great problem solving talent. If they cannot solve a problem, they will bring management possible solutions. They don’t like to leave problems un-solved. Employers and recruiters know that hiring veterans is good for business. Once they are trained they become very productive, very quickly. They produce quality work within the time and budgets allocated and are loyal employees. If you have the opportunity, hire a vet!
