Dogs are a man’s best friend. Sure, we’ve always accepted this universal truth, but has it always been reality? For Joshua Lundberg of Northborough, the journey to discovering why dogs are so loyal to their owners began by coincidence. The Monks of New Skeete, New York, selected Joshua Lundberg of Northborough and his family to participate in a German Shepherd breeding program. “It was surreal,” says Joshua Lundberg of Northborough, reflecting on the experience. “Of course we were excited about the opportunity, but none of us really knew what to expect.” As part of the program, Joshua Lundberg of Northborough had the opportunity to play a role in puppy socialization. “I didn’t know that puppy socialization was so important to the personality of a dog,” says Joshua Lundberg of Northborough. Indeed, puppy socialization is critical because of: - Exposure. Giving a puppy exposure to different stimuli will give it the experience and psychological benefits needed in order to function optimally in today’s world. For instance, dogs today need to be used to guests, other dogs in the dog park, and other stimuli. Exposure at a young age creates a well-rounded dog.
- Personality. “Not all dogs have the same personality,” says Joshua Lundberg of Northborough. “Did you know that the exposure they get to various stimuli as a puppy is what develops their personality?” Dogs with experiences in puppy socialization are generally friendlier and react better with other dogs as they age, whereas dogs sheltered as a pup don’t react so well.
- Fun. “Dogs have a lot of energy,” says Joshua Lundberg of Northborough. “It’s critical that they’re given the opportunity to play.” Indeed, being able to unleash energy as a pup creates an experience that results in a more well-rounded dog.
While Joshua Lundberg of Northborough enjoys his experience with puppy socialization and German Shepherd breeding, these aren't the only ways that he’s been involved in the community. Joshua Lundberg of Northborough has been active in various community efforts since he was a youth and even participated in a conference with the United Nations as a youth representative. “I think it’s important to have community service experience that ventures into all realms of service,” says Joshua Lundberg of Northborough. “It makes you a more well-rounded individual.” Indeed, Joshua Lundberg of Northborough’s experience with puppy socialization has made him a proponent for animal rights and has exposed him to many issues that he wasn’t formerly aware of.
