Yemane Abraham is a true environmentalist and supporter of the green movement. A few years ago Yemane Abraham became passionate about hiking, which ultimately made him respect nature even more. Yemane Abraham always looks for new and innovative ways to adopt eco-friendly habits into his life. Although he is aware that change is difficult for many people, an easy way to be environmentally friendly is to recycle. Here Yemane Abraham offers some of the best recycling tips for those desiring to take a green initiative. - Remember the R’s: Yemane Abraham notes that an important rule of thumb while going green is to remember the theory: reduce, reuse, recycle. Although people primarily focus on the idea of recycling to help conserve, it is also important to first reduce, and then look for ways you can reuse materials before recycling even occurs. Yemane Abraham notes that reducing involves lessening our consumption of products and services in general. Once you have implemented a strategy into your life to reduce your consumption patterns, Yemane Abraham notes that it is important to look for ways to reuse materials. Now, you are ready to begin recycling “waste” materials.
- Look up what can and cannot be recycled in your area. Yemane Abraham notes that all cities have different guidelines regarding what is recyclable. It is important to do your research for your specific area before you send materials over to be processed.
- Buy recycled. Yemane Abraham notes that recycling is a constant movement of materials; thus, it is important to buy recycled products whenever possible. Each time you make a recycled purchase, you are eliminating waste and the need to extract more raw materials from the environment.
- Recycle water. Yemane Abraham states that if you are a homeowner, you can rearrange your plumbing so the wastewater from your shower can be used when you flush your toilet. Another great option to recycle water is to use leftover bath or dishwater to water your garden or flowers.
- Donate. Yemane Abraham notes that if you have unwanted items around your house, donate them before throwing them into a landfill. There are various charities that will accept your donations. Yemane Abraham states that another option is to list items under “free stuff” on Craigslist. Although you may not have a need for a specific item, someone else will. If you are unable to donate or give away an item, here is a link that provides insight on what can be recycled and what cannot.
