What are the Prerequisites to Become a Business Analyst

Career
Business analysts help organisations and companies identify problems and find out solutions for them. Do you have skills to solve problems? Do you have a good understanding of business? Or, are you proficient in making tough decisions? If you have all the necessary skills, you have a great opportunity to make a career as a business analyst.

Job responsibility of a business analyst

Since the corporate world has become a competitive market, there is a huge demand for business analysts. You will need to assess different aspects of a company such as its daily processes, procedures, efficacies and staff and set strategies to make the overall business strong. This task can involve studying and collecting information as well as setting your findings for the managements to use in the future. Your evaluations and recommendations aid management in making business decisions about changes to the company.

The qualifications you need to become a business analyst

Primary qualification:

There are several options available to become a business analyst as there are no set rules or requirements. However, to start a career, you need at least a bachelor’s degree in business or related field such as finance, business administration or information technology.

Some employers prefer their candidates to have a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. So, if you want a prosperous career ahead, it is better to go for a master’s degree program in this field. A typical MBA programme includes courses in financial analyses, decision making and marketing.

These programmes generally consist of two years of graduate-level study. In the first year of learning, you may have to take courses in economics, data analyses, strategic management, marketing management and financial accounting. While in the second year of studying, you are likely to customise your education and select elective studies relevant to your career. Additionally, MBA programmes sometimes require internships. If you are able to do this internship, you are likely to up your job opportunities in future employment.

Secondary qualification: Some employers prefer to hire a candidate having a certificate in business analysis. This is much like an alternative to undergraduate or graduate education. So, it is worth earning a certificate in this field. Once you receive the certificate, you will be able to establish yourself as a professional in this field.

This certification is a one year programme and it is available at many universities, community colleges and technology schools. This certificate offers courses in testing and solution development, business process analyses, business planning and project management.

Additional qualification:

Along with formal training, if you have business experience; you can have more opportunities and higher salaries. In order to have the experience, you can prefer to work in related entry level positions like business research assistance, project coordination or accounting. This field also involves technology assessment, therefore having knowledge in computer administration or support may prove helpful for you. This job is more or less the same like a consulting job. So, if you have a strong grasp of the company process assessment, you can make a bright career.

Things to remember:

May be you have different levels of education. But it is important to learn the fast-paced changes of the corporate world to keep yourself updated. You may require continuing your studies to adapt to advancements and changes of the business world as they arrive. In addition to this, as this job includes project management and correspondence with the different people, you require possessing strong communication and leadership skills as a business analyst.

If you have already started your career as a business analyst or, if you are looking for a change for a better career opportunity, you can start your job hunt now.
