Detoxification or Detox is a word most people give little thought to or attention to. But cleansing the body will not only boost your metabolism and immune system, but also allow your body to absorb more nutrients from your food or supplementation program. Considering the amount of money we spend on food and supplements in one year, a detox is something we should incorporate in to our regular regime. Why. We absorb and consume toxins every day, in our drinking water and our food, even in the air we breathe. The products we put on our skin, spray into our hair, brush our teeth with, and perfume our bodies. We can’t escape the fact we poison our bodies all the time, and our body has to deal with it all the time. The amounts of toxins in these products are minute but accumulative. But the human body is not designed to handle chemicals and our immune systems and physical performance suffers. Our athletes and sports people, who are always looking for the edge in performance and fat loss, taking supplements and health products, don’t take into consideration the large amount of extra toxins and chemicals that replace fats and sugars in dietary foods. So the ones we expect to be the healthiest are often the ones who need to detox their bodies the most. In the average person, when we take a painkiller or sleeping tablet, smoke a cigarette, have an extra drink of alcohol, the last bite of that take away burger we are slowly but surely adding to the toxic build up in our own bodies. We were not designed to live on a diet of chemical and powders but raw vegetables, fruits and fresh meat. Our Ancestors did not have the need to detox their bodies and the fresh food did so anyway. How. Some of the organs that clean the body of toxins are the Liver, the Kidneys, the sweat glands and the Intestines. But as the body fills up with toxins these organs come under pressure and start having a hard time getting rid of the excess. So many people turn to other powders and pills to help them expel the toxins, or whatever diet plan is endorsed by the latest Hollywood star on a magazine cover. Some people change their diet, and restrict the consumption of certain types of food, which seems to have a purging effect on the toxins. A good example of this is the Cabbage detox diet, where cabbage is boiled with some other vegetables and this is consumed for about a week and then other vegetables are added every week, slowly until a regular diet is resumed in about one month. Some people experience weight loss, and it is important to keep up your fluid intake to help flush out the toxic waste. Recent studies have shown that certain other foodstuffs can have a detoxing effect on the human body, while not having to change dietary habits. Ganoderma lucidem is a mushroom grown in China and has recently been infused into coffee and tea. Ganoderma cleanses the liver and the kidneys, and can help the body achieve a state of homeostasis. All this is done without changing the dietary habits of the consumer. Nice and easy. .
