Ganoderma lucidum, the King of Herbs, the Herb of Eternal life. Has a history which stretches over 4 thousand years. It has been depicted in Ancient Chinese artwork and music and has been part of the cultural history for thousands of years. Once only the Emperor of China and his Generals were allowed to partake of this wonderful herb, it is now available to anyone, who wants to try the amazing healing and life enhancing qualities of this wonderful mushroom. A BRIEF HISTORY. The history of Ganoderma is shrouded in mystery and myth, Peng Zu (Shang Dynasty 16th to 11th centuries) was supposed to have lived some 900 yrs. and to have married over 100 women, Ganoderma was mention as one of the secrets of his long life and vitality. And we know that at the time of the Emperor Han Wu Di (156-87 BC) that Ganoderma lucidum was growing in the palace as a sign of prosperity and abundance. Images of this amazing mushroom were carved into the walls as a symbol of immortality and energy. It has also been associated with Taoist Priests who used it in their magic. In the oldest books on medicine in China, written about 200 AD, Ganoderma lucidum is rated as a more powerful herb than Ginseng. Li Shiszhen of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) one of the greatest physicians of the time, talked about the health benefits in his Bencao Gangmu or compendium of Materia Medica . This book is regarded as the most comprehensive book on Chinese Herbal Medicine in history. It was introduced to the west in 1972 and it’s indoor growth was started in Japan and has undergone many testing processes ever since. USES. According to some university studies (2011), Ganoderma has a wide range of uses. Some of which include the treatment of various diseases and ailments in the human body. These include, but not limited to, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Hepatitis, HIV and AIDS Support, Hypertension, various infections, Type 1 Diabetes, Type 2 Diabetes. In Traditional Chinese medicine it has been used for the treatment of General Fatigue and Weakness, Asthma, Insomnia and Cough. Clinical trials have shown Ganoderma’s adjuvant effects when used in conjunction with modern chemotherapy, Ganoderma can reduce the gastrointestinal injury such as anorexia and vomiting, can enhance the patient’s immune response, and improve the patient’s quality of life. One of the most exciting modern developments with Ganoderma has been the infusion of Organic Ganoderma with beverages such as Coffee and Tea as well as Mocha and a Gourmet Hot chocolate. The active ingredients of the Ganoderma have not been compromised and the effects have noted by many people.
