Healthy Coffee is not a new concept; it is as old as coffee itself, but new brands of coffee offer a Healthy Coffee saying it is healthier than standard coffee. There are a differing views on what Healthy Coffee is, and what makes coffee healthy in the first place, if it is.. What is Coffee? To understand what Healthy Coffee is, we must know what coffee is. Coffee is a brewed beverage from the roasted seeds from the evergreen shrub of the genus Coffea. There are two (2) main coffee types sold in the world, there are many more of course, but these are the two main coffees sold in the Western World. Arabica from the plant Coffea arabica and Robusta from the plant Coffea canephora. Coffee is slightly acidic having a ph. of 5.0 to 5.1. Coffee also contains caffeine which acts as a mild stimulant to the human body. Coffee is the 2nd most consumed beverage in the world, only second to water, and is the 2nd highest traded commodity only beaten by oil. Is Coffee Healthy? It has been stated by The National Institutes of Health – AARP Diet and Health Study (2012) that moderate coffee consumption correlated negatively with the risk of death. In simple terms this means that people who consume a moderate amount of coffee tended to live longer. However coffee is acidic and the human body is designed to be neutral or mildly alkaline, which is a ph. level of 7.0 or slightly higher. Many of the diseases which disrupt the human body cannot live in an alkaline environment. And too much consumption of coffee can push the ph. balance to acidic, thus allowing some diseases to flourish. Unfiltered coffee has been linked to a slight rise in cholesterol levels, but has been shown in other studies to help prevent such diseases as Parkinson’s disease. Also in the control of type 2 diabetes. Also we should remember that how we have our coffee has an effect on the body, such as sugar and milk or cream. Healthy Coffee. In recent years companies have infused coffee with herbs to enhance the health effects of coffee, the most popular of these enhancements is infused Organic Ganoderma lucidum. Ganoderma lucidum is a mushroom, grown in China for thousands of years, with many medicinal properties. Its history is ancient and features in literature and artwork of Ancient China. It was only ever allowed to be consumed by the Emperor and his Generals, so potent was this herb. It was also called the Mushroom of Eternal life, or the King of Herbs. Ganoderma lucidum or as it is called in Asia, Reishi Mushroom, has been used in the treatment of many diseases. And has an interesting range of benefits to the body, such as oxygenation of the blood stream, more energy, helping to control blood pressure, helping with sleep disorders and many more benefits. It also puts the body in a more alkaline state. So if this Herb is infused into coffee and the many attributes of the herb are not lost, and the aroma and flavour of the coffee are not changed in any way, then the potential of Healthy Coffee to change lives is unlimited. Many people don’t like taking medication or are forgetful about medication, which can be more harmful, so if the health benefits were already in something that most people consume on a daily basis, usually multiple times, then the new Healthy Coffee raises the bar and sets the standard higher than the standard coffee.
