Is this your first attempt at designing and creating your company folders? If you are lucky enough to have gotten through the design phase and are ready to look for a print shop to work with, then you are likely already leaps and bounds ahead of much of the competition. Excited to place your order and see the product of your hard work, you probably will scour the internet for reviews and information about each printer. When you find a quality printer, it can get daunting. It may not take long before you become discouraged because the one you are interested in working with probably has what feels like a million different types of folders that you can choose to print. You know that choosing the wrong folder options will probably not be a big enough mistake to get you fired, but you might feel uncomfortable because you do not know the difference between the cuts, coatings, and so on. Beyond that, what if you pick the wrong thing when choosing among regular folders, company folders, kit folders, and presentation folders? You might be wondering what the difference is and if it matters. Generally speaking, all of these folders are the same thing. They are all used to organize paper in some way, and for most print shops, there is no real difference—it is just different names for the same thing. Some printers may give folders alternate names, and often what these folders are called only differs by what you plan on using them for. If you are setting out to order company folders, kit folders, presentation folders, or so on, you really just are in the market for pocket folders. Most folders will be 9x12 pocket folders, unless you elect to choose other options. For specialized uses such a presentation or special events, you may choose to change the size or even shape of the folder to suit the occasion. For example, if you are an interior designer and you often meet with high-net-worth individuals for projects in their home, you may consider a folder in the shape of a house that opens up to design mockups. Remember there is no highly specialized formula for choosing the right type of folder; your folder printing should be dependent on your needs. Just make sure that your choice of company folders, or pocket folders, are in line with your brand and how you plan on using your folders.
