Being famous mostly for the glorious beaches and beautiful ocean shores, Sri Lanka is a great place to visit. Dating back to 1734, the Kande Viharaya Temple is a fort of solitude and spiritual relief for all those who take the time to visit this place. Thousands of people flock to its holy grounds, in search of both mental and spiritual uplifting. The Kande Viharaya Temple provides a kind of tranquillity that is said to bring peace to the body, mind and soul. In the Kande Viharaya Temple you can also find the "Kshethrarama Pirivena" which was inaugurated by Ven. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala Thero in the year of 1904. This temple is a great place to visit because it provides a link to the social and cultural features in Sri Lanka. The name of the temple also has meaning. 'Viharaya', means 'temple' and 'kanda' meaning 'hill.' Hence rightfully so, the structure does sit on a hill. Given its close proximity to the beaches and coasts, the sanctuary is also sometimes referred to as "Aluthgama Kande Viharaya" or the "Bentota Kande Viharaya" as it is close to these towns. Here you will also find the tallest seated Buddha statue in the world that was put together in a very short period. There are also nine smaller places of worship here, also known as shrines that are dedicated to different gods. So when you are down south, do not forget to indulge in the waters, and surf to your heart's content. You will definitely have the time of your life on this island paradise.
