Mobile app development is becoming more and more popular these days. A few years back website development was booming, and while it shows no signs of slowing down, mobile development is getting on an equal footing with that, along with all the mobile analytics services and other tools one might need. History is pretty much repeating itself, as mobile apps development moves roughly through the same stages web development went. One such example is analytics for mobile. At the dawn of the web age nobody had the tools for web analytics, or rather, no complete widely available solution was offered, much like the situation with analytics for mobile and mobile analytics in general was a few years back. Then web analytics tools appeared, each with various pluses and minuses, each offering different levels of performance, and each aimed at a specific audience, with Google Analytics being the most popular and mainstream solution both in the sphere of web analytics, mobile analytics and analytics for mobile. Popularity, however, isn’t the necessary hallmark of quality in the world of mobile analytics. In fact, the two are completely unrelated, and Google analytics, the most popular web and one of the most popular analytics for mobile solutions, can provide data which is not very accurate. In fact, in certain situations Google Analytics might be 10-80% off. It can be the same for Google mobile analytics. And it’s not limited to just Google, too. Many mainstream analytics for mobile solutions face certain problems, which in some situations can end up creating catastrophic results. To make sure you don’t end up broke just because you got wrong data at the wrong time from your analytics tool you have to invest time into looking for a right solution, and money to purchase it, since accurate results and high quality rarely come cheap. That’s not mentioning the ease of use. Why not use Google analytics services, though? After all, it’s familiar, it’s easy to use, it’s cheap, and it’s probably accurate, since it is Google itself offering this service, right? Well, as was already noted, it doesn’t necessarily mean that all Google services are the paragon of quality, and that percentage of inaccuracy mentioned above is not even the worst case. And Google analytics is an old service, polished and updated for several years. When you take that into account, it’s pretty obvious that Google analytics for mobile is going to be a bit raw. There are several problems with Google mobile analytics. First of all, Google Analytics only works with devices which can utilize JavaScript. This means that you will miss all traffic coming from lower end devices, and also from users who turned off JavaScript in their browsers. Second biggest limitation is that Google Analytics won’t track visitors that don’t accept cookies. Another issue is that Google Analytics only tracks visits with “href” attribute, so if the visitor got to your website by hitting a button like “play”, then it won’t count that. Finally, Google product won’t track Flash pages. This makes it pretty obvious that there are better ways to analyze web traffic out there. There are many mobile analytics solutions there. Google has the most popular version, but many other analytics for mobile are way more professional and accurate.
