The collar & capstan is a secure method of attaching both monofilament and super lines directly to the tow eye of a lure. It is created in two parts with the initial formation of the capstan, which is then secured with a collar. An additional loop in a length of line will be required to act as a pull-through in forming this knot. The Collar & Capstan is not commonly used when fishing with monofilament lines simply because there are easier knots to tie that work just as well. However, the knot does retain a high degree of the lines original breaking strain with testing demonstrating up to 90% of the original lines strength retained. It also produces very little wear due to its natural working action. The Collar & Capstan is certainly a good knot to use when working with fine or lighter lines.
