Matheran, the Weekend Respite of Maharashtra

Travel & Tourism

When you suffocate your mind by the dense smoke of the concrete jungle of Mumbai and its bustling suburbs and your soul cries for a tranquil respite, Matheran is an unmatched choice for a weekend leisure trip. You can go Neral to Matheran by train. When you plan a quick tour don’t forget to chalk down a list of places to visit in Matheran. The uniqueness of this place is its soil has never been scarred by the wheels of any vehicle. It is probably the only hill station in entire India that does not allow any vehicle inside the town. Matheran has a gate where the cars and other vehicles are parked and the hand pulled rickshaws make it look more of a toy town than a real one.

The animated horses give you the feel of a town that has stopped in time and the pin drop silence in the woods make you feel eerily beautiful, with the setting sun’s crimson hue. The list of places to see in Matheran is in a plethora and often you would get perplexed as to how many Matheran points actually exist. The moment you enter Matheran the natural beauty of the places will engulf you in a kind of silence you would want to be wrapped in for a while. When you are in Matheran sightseeing is all you can do.

The popular Matheran points include the 38 epoch spots that exist, swathing the town in an unexplainable romanticism for a tireless traveller. You might not be able to visit all the points that Matheran claims to be unique for, but you would surely cover most of them as they are situated close enough to each other. Amongst the Matheran sightseeing the first breathtaking appreciation would go to no other serenity but Charlotte Lake. It is located at a distance of 2 kilometres from the local market and the post office. Amongst the long list of places to visit in Matheran are the Alexander Point, Echo Point, the Monkey Point, Louisa Point,, King George Point, Sunset Point, Panoramic Point, Heart Point, Rambaug Point, Khandala Point, the One Tree Hill, Garbut Point, and Chowk Point are the most famous ones to mention. While the single tree on the One Tree Hill resembles the loner in you, the Echo Point makes you feel even soliloquy can be a conversation because the rocks repeat what you speak.

If you want more of Matheran, here’s another slice. Some other places to see in Matheran are Belvedere Point, Lords Point, a binocular vision of the fortress of ruler Shivaji and the Cecil Point. If you are a lonely traveller you might lose yourself to the exquisiteness of the woods and if you are the adventurous soul then quench your thirst by trying your hand at some rappelling and rock climbing. Matheran will get into your skin and make you absorb its aura and when you go back it will remain with you, making you want to come back again.
