The Punjabi film industry has been gifting us with some immensely popular movies, since its very inception. We, generally, tend to associate Punjabi films with enthusiasm, gusto, fun, merry-making and full on energy. The typical image of a Punjabi film setting, we generally form, is a big and grand house, a rich and somewhat conservative family, pompous marriages, a ‘bebe’, the eldest female member of the family, women with ‘ghunghats’, ‘bhangra’, people feasting on lassi etc. One of the most awaited movie in the Punjabi film industry is the upcoming comedy movie ‘Bhaji in Problem’. This movie has been written and directed by Smeep Kang, the director of the 2012 movies “Carry on Jatta” and “Lucky Di Unlucky Story”, both of which proved to be smashing hits. Akshay Kumar Productions and Roundsquare productions are the mutual producers of this film. The fact that the Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is producing and starring in the film makes it the ‘most awaited’ movie at this time. Last December, Akshay Kumar had expressed his long nurtured desire to be a part of the Punjabi film industry to the media and this year itself, the great actor-turned- producer has actually realized his desire and is producing “Bhaji in Problem”. He will also feature in an extended role in this movie, apparently and this will happen to be his first ever Punjabi movie. Another crowd pulling fact about the movie is that Harbhajan Singh, one of the idolized cricket stars of the country, is also starring in the movie and this will be a debut movie for Harbhajan Singh, as well, as an actor. The famous television actress, Ragini Khanna, who, with her serial ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ made all her fans go gaga over her charm, is also making her Punjabi film debut in this movie. The star cast of the movie includes Gippy Grewal, Taran Dhanoa, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Ragini Khanna, Om Puri, B.N. Sharma, Khusboo Grewal, Karamjit Anmol, Rana Ranbir, Harbhajan Singh and Akshay Kumar in an extended appearance. Gippy Grewal had played the lead role in both of Smeep Kang’s earlier movies “Carry on Jatta” and “Lucky Di Unlucky Story”. Talking about her role in this movie, Khusboo Grewal said, “I’ve officially become Ghuggi ji’s better half now. All the movies that I have done with Ghuggi ji have been a hit so, I consider him my lucky mascot now.” She also said that “Bhaji in Problem” is going to be a film packed with full-on comedy, which has plots, sub-plots and lots of twist and turn in the storyline. This movie is expected to be released on the 20th of September, 2013. Lets see what this date brings in for “Bhaji in Problem” and for Akshay Kumar specifically.
