Different types of products requires different packaging boxes. This ranges from technological products and environmental packaging requirements to food packaging in which whether the food can remain freshness and its safety can be guaranteed or not. These packaging requirements are regulated by the government and companies can be fined with a large amount of money if the rules are not properly followed. First, for medicines packaging, specific packaging requirements are necessary, especially when the medicines are made in pill form. The purpose for packaging is to keep the goods safe, let alone the pharmaceutical packaging which any bad impact on the medicine will directly cause harmful adverse reactions. Therefore, medicines should be packed free from contamination, hinder microbial growth, and safely. In packages, pills are individually kept in plastic with a foil or paper back to keep the medicine as potent as possible. This packaging method also allows someone to easily keep track of how many pills they have. In bottle form, a child safety cap is required on all medicines, so small children will not accidentally take pills which look like candy and overdose. And foil and heat sealing of the packaging should be operated in rigid craft standard. Most foods sold in supermarkets in packages must have ingredients listed on the package or information about the product and what type of dietary qualities the food has, like percentage of fat, saturated fat, carbohydrates and sugars, and some types of information are required by governments. As for the protection, a barrier from oxygen, water vapor, dust, etc., is often required. Permeation is a critical factor in design. Some packages contain desiccants or Oxygen absorbers to help extend shelf life. Moreover, modified atmospheres or controlled atmospheres are also maintained in some food packages. Perishable foods, such as dairy products and eggs, must have expiration dates printed on them as well, telling the customer when the food will most likely begin to spoil. As for packaging materials, all food sold on shelves of stores must be sealed in plastic or within a cardboard container so it is not easily affected by bacteria or insects in the air of the market. Technological products require a specific type of packaging to keep them safe while being transferred, in order to keep products from causing environmental hazards while they are waiting to be sold. If broken in the package, the plastic container is designed to hold these chemicals and prevent leaks. Styrofoam peanuts are also not allowed by companies in packaging computer hardware products for their unfriendliness to the environment. Many technology companies have stepped up to study on the green products. This kind of products may not include certain toxic glues which could be environmentally harmful when they are disposed of.
