Hundreds of years ago, human beings were submissive to the nature. And now, they are tampering with it to meet their needs and development. While in the misuse of nature, people are also destroying their environment which is the only place for them to live. The environment deteriorate has become a threat to human beings. In this context, the biodegradable tableware has been the prime choice of using disposable products.
At present, studies on disposable tableware are organized and planned on a large scale. Proved by the test results from relevant department, under certain environmental conditions, the material of disposable products can have morphological changes, fragmentation, decreases in molecular weight and some parts can be absorbed by bacteria.
Speaking from the International, British IC1 branch office, from the mid-1970s, began to study the development of biodegradable plastics. To the end of the 1970s, they developed a kind of product which composed by microorganism. And an Italian company developed a mixed starch biodegradable plastics. The disposable tableware nowadays is taking the natural plants as raw materials, such as sugar cane or corn.
The future development of biodegradable tableware is promising. A large number of agricultural residues which provides the raw materials for the production, and if the surplus food can be used to produce biodegradable tableware, food will have a large market. The high yield of crops, sweet potato and so on will make the development of biodegradable tableware become inevitable. As for technology, there have been hundreds of manufacturers which devote themselves on the technology research. And we can see from the study above, the productions and researches of biodegradable tableware are not only for the long-term environmental protection, but also for the sustainable development of society.
