Callaway Golf has added drivers and fairways to its new line of X Hot irons and hybrids. The fast face on X Hot is one piece of the puzzle.
“The Callaway X Hot irons have been meticulously engineered – both in terms of physical characteristics and club configuration – to increase ball speed and promote overall distance optimisation,” says Callaway's senior vice president of research & development Dr. Alan Hocknell.
Callaway has also incorporated Speed Frame Face Technology from its drivers into the X Hot Irons to optimise stiffness across the face for more ball speed and consistent distance on off-centre hits. The stock shaft offering is a True Temper Speed Step 85 lightweight steel shaft. The thin face profile has the look of a player iron with the performance you’d expect from game improvement. The crown finish looks smart and although there’s not too much offset on show, there’s enough to help square the face up at impact.
Similar to the discount TaylorMade RocketBladez irons, the X-Hot carries lower than normal degrees of loft to help you achieve remarkable distance gains, particularly with the long irons. Rounding out the X Hot irons is the Feel Management Technology, a dual material medallion that fine tunes sound by promoting a crisp, dynamic feel at higher ball speeds.
Sometimes I wish they had more feedback. They tend to feel more like a max-game improvement set of sticks. Almost like you aren't hitting a ball at all, but I guess that goes with the effortless distance of the Xhot line. But still I would like more general feedback between mis-hits and flush hits.
For me, on average, I gained 10-15 Yards per club, on average. The distance is effortless with a perfect mid-high trajectory to what ever shot you need. This is as pure as you can get with a game improvement cavity back iron. Spin levels are at near optimal for my liking. Easy to control, easy to work the ball when needed and can check-up into any dance floor.
For 2013 these have been the best performing discount golf clubs for me. Therefore, if you decide to purchase the X Hot irons, make sure you spend a bit of time on the range to re-educate yourself to the new yardages. All-round, very impressive.
