If you still don’t have a current generation video game console, you may want to consider the PlayStation 3 over the Xbox 360.But I won't.I too own both consoles,I buy then from evenprice, evenprice suppy cheap ps3 controllers and cheap xbox 360 controllers, but I prefer Xbox360 and I thought I’d add a bit of extra detail to some of your points. 1) RECHARGING CONTROLLERS Xbox controllers are just as rechargeable as PS3's, you just have to buy the rechargeable battery pack ($ 15). Moreover, Xbox can charge batteries while switched off, whereas you have to leave a PS3 on all the time to do the same thing. 2) XBOX CONTROLLER I disagree the PS3 controller is better than the Xbox’s for any game that is not a FPS. I have played Dark Souls on Xbox and Demons Souls on PS3 – these games share the same control system, triggers/buttons mapping etc. And I find myself much more comfortable and in control with the Xbox controller, it feels more tight and responsive. Perhaps a matter of personal preference? 3) XBOX LIVE Yes, it’s a paid service but I have often read in the Dark Souls community that in PvP the lag on Xbox is less noticeable than on PS3, and some PS3 owners, really serious about PvP, have even gone as far as buying an Xbox360 just for that. Not sure if this is true, as I have not had a chance to check it first hand, and PvPing on Xbox does show some lag at times – but it makes sense that a paid service is more reliable and functional than a free one. 4) SYSTEM’s USER INTERFACE Besides the slicker style, I find the Xbox UI more intuitive and responsive. Honestly, the PS3's looks like a scattered mess of textual options in comparison. Plus one thing I hate about PS3s menus is that EVERY single menu options has to be loaded (revolving arrow) even if it’s the option to switch off the console or exit a game – which are surely not options that should load any external data to be displayed?! On the Pros side, I really like the ability to set up a textual multiplayer chat on PS3 (as far as I know this is not possible on 360). 5) Yep, go out and spend extra money for that which you get free with a PS3, in fact, you get two rechargeable controllers with a PS3, saving you ?30. 6) Controllers are really personal preference as you said, I always have found the PS controller better because it’s smaller but that’s just me. 7) I own a PS3 and 360 and can safely say there is no difference between internet connections on both platforms — if I’ve experienced lag on one game online on one console, I’ve experienced it on the other exactly the same. The ‘paid service’ is no more reliable and no more functional than the free one, they’re identical — like literally identical. 8) It’s been proven time and time again that the PS menu is much faster and more responsive than that of the 360 (there are hundreds and thousands of comparison videos on Youtube to back my point up — and what you mentioned about the switching off controllers and games, if you hold the PS button it pops up on a little wheel-box like thing in like a second, on the 360 isn’t it exactly the same where holding the center button brings up a dialogue box (after like 5 seconds mind) to switch things off? Not entirely sure how that can be a con if the 360 is identical in that aspect.
